Try, when editing the text (inline, not via the dialogue box) to press shift-return where you want the break.

I have a Heading paragraph style which is defined to Keep With Next 1 Lines. But when it appears at the bottom of a column, the soft column break separates it from the following paragraph. Any way to fix this short of inserting manual column breaks? In general I would think that "keep with"...
