Re: BibDesk with Mellel?
It has been some years since the last post to this thread, but I think a report of my experience with BibDesk could still be useful. I collect my bibliography titles for a particular work in a dedicated folder in BibDesk. Titles also go in the general library, so that they can be reused for later wo...

Re: French typography : automatic no-break before ? ; : !
Within a few month, I will have to write in French very often. Is it mandatory to insert that space before punctuation, or is this optional? I hate it. Please let me avoid it without being plainly wrong...

Re: Crop Marks in Mellel
It cannot be done with Mellel, but there is a relatively inexpensive option with PDFClerk:

Re: Longa and brevis in Greek metrics
Thank you everybody for the great help. I did my lesson using apostrophes for breve, but now I know how to do it better next time. DdB: New Athena Unicode is really a fantastic font, also including the Old Italic set. And the breve symbol is really the one I was looking for. Together with Cardo and ...

Re: Longa and brevis in Greek metrics
Janet, Cardo is the only font I've found that supports the metric symbols Unfortunately, there are really so few fonts with these characters. I can't understand why. Isn't paleo-musicology one of the most common issues of discussion around the net? Joking apart, I would have guessed that the (not hu...

Re: Longa and brevis in Greek metrics
Maybe I found something interesting. Unicode specs say that characters from U+23D1 to U+23D9 are metrical symbols. So, we have U+23D1 Metrical Breve U+23D2 Metrical Long Over Short U+23D3 Metrical Short Over Long U+23D4 Metrical Long Over Two Shorts U+23D5 Metrical Two Shorts Over Long U+23D6 Metric...

Re: Longa and brevis in Greek metrics
Janet, Thank you very much for the fonts suggestion. I must check them. I hope they include Old Italic languages as well, as Alphabetum does. In you example, I see both macron and breve in superscript position. With Alphabetum (maybe the other fonts as well?) I have them in normal position. Unfortun...

Re: Longa and brevis in Greek metrics
Thimoteus, Alphabetum seems like the right solution - and for a mere 15 euro. I had not found the stand-alone longa and brevis before, but they are there, and a couple clicks in Key Characters makes the magic. I wonder if they can really be exported on different systems (I'll check on my portable Ma...

Re: Longa and brevis in Greek metrics
Dear Janet, Thank you very much for your hints. I must confess I already did this, but was not satisfied by the appearance of the breve-macron set. By using the stand-alone set I obtain small superscript symbols, like the following ones: This is an example: ¯ ˘ ˘ ¯ I'm not sure this is the correct w...

Longa and brevis in Greek metrics
Hi, Since Mellel's user base is mostly made of sophisticate academics, I guess this is the best place to do a sophisticate question. I'm sure some of you have faced this same kind of problems before. I must write a text on Greek metrics, and I'm unsure of the way of writing the longa (or macron) and...

Re: A simple reason why grammar-check is needed

By looking for "grammar checker mac" on the internet, it seems to me that there are even some other programs of this kind.

Al,
I know you weren't asking for an additional program to buy, but Circus Ponies NoteBook does the Cornell notetaking thing very well. Copying and pasting from Mellel should work well.

Re: What does NWP 1.1 preview mean for Mellel?
Mellel and Nisus will eventually realign as far as major features are concerned. But I see the general use philosophy will remain different, with Mellel more aimed to specialists, and Nisus pointing more towards a general audience. This doen't mean that Mellel cannot be used as a general wordprocess...

Re: Where are cross references / text flow around images?
In the same time the Redlers make a single perfectly working upgrade with a few new useful features, Microsoft is out with a totally new suite with less features than before, running slower, with more bugs. It is obvious that bigger corporations have more personnel - and this is not necessarily a go...

Re: Diacritical marks in various programs
Signinstranger, Bingo! In Mellel, importing the text file generated by JDarkRoom, instead of loading it, let me choose the enconding. UTF-8 (Unicode) worked very well. also, choosing the right text encoding, when opening files, worked great in TextEdit. So, it seems that some programs open files in ...
