Re: Automatic Date Insertion Buggy
A possibility has occurred to me that might be involved in your problem. With 2.8 Mellel changed its method of saving documents. Up until now, documents were saved in a “package” form, which has become the standard in OS X and has confused many people. One problem with the “package form” has been th...

Re: Automatic Date Insertion Buggy
I have no difficulty inserting the date as you describe: Insert Menu > Date (Long Date : Name of Day, date month year). So I do not think your problem is a bug in Mellel 2.8, but something to do with your setup.

Re: Mellel 2.8 is Here!
The Beginners Tutorial for Mellel 2.8 is now available from the Mellel site. It is in the list Written with Mellel (in the current Mellel site, click on More on the main page when you go to the site, then choose Written with Mellel from the list which comes up, and once the Written with Mellel windo...

Re: The state of the Mellel (a road map of sorts)
I have to disagree about this. First of all, my experience with other programs (primarily Pages, Nisus, Mail) has shown me that Snow Leopard makes a lot of mistakes in recognizing the languages; I would not like to rely on it. Also, Snow Leopard is not good at recognizing languages for which it does...

Re: Words count
Word Processor programs vary a great deal on how they calculate words. I made a text in TextEdit and saved it as rtf. Here is a list of the total number of words as given by 13 word processors for that text: Total Words Program 60243 Mellel 60128 Open Office 60128 Lotus Symphony 60078 Lightway Text ...

Re: Sorting/alphabetizing
I apologize; it is indeed possible that I did install the Devon Technologies' Wordservices but had forgotten that I did so.

Re: Sorting/alphabetizing
You did not look in the right place. Look in the Mellel Menu (right next to the Apple Menu, in Mellel); select services and then services preferences; then Keyboard shortcuts; then services; then scroll down to text; then scroll down to Sort lines ascending & sort lines descending.

Re: Sorting/alphabetizing
But the whole point of having the Services provision in Snow Leopard is to make tasks available for any or all programs without programmers having to specially incorporate the task into their program. This was/is intended to be a special Mac facility. When the System itself makes provision for such ...

Re: Small request (option for "paste plain text" as default)
In the Edit Menu there is an item Paste Special. When you click on this, Plain Text can be chosen. The default keyboard shortcut is command-shift-option-v. If you want to make plain text the default paste style, you would have to change this shortcut using a macro program such as Keyboard Maestro. D...

Re: The state of the Mellel (a road map of sorts)
"I had need for them today: both a document wide watermark ("draft") and a single image placed under some text, not next to it." These at least are already possible in Mellel. I suggest you read the chapter titled "Images and Figures" in my Tutorial on Mellel's provisio...

Making punctuation marks proper for 2nd language
A major problem which many Mellel users have come across is that when they are writing text in both English and Hebrew, even though when they have chosen the Secondary script (i.e.Hebrew) and an appropriate Hebrew font for use when the Hebrew flag has been selected, and have been writing in Hebrew, ...

Re: Problems with spell checking & language recognition
Yes, I also have been finding this same situation. I wonder if somehow a bug made its way into Snow Leopard 10.6.4 somehow.

Re: help with Find and Replace
I try to deal with such issues in my Beginners Tutorial for Mellel, in the find and replace chapter. I'd appreciate your taking a look at that, and letting me know if the explanation of the method proves to be unsatisfactory.

Re: Making the switch… Any advice?
Nisus Writer Pro has its strengths and its weaknesses. Back in the days of the Mac "classic" operating systems, e.g. System 9, Nisus was the only truly multi-lingual program around, but gradually it became buggier and buggier over the years until I finally had to abandon it for preparing t...
