Re: File format for greatest longevity

Mellel deserves credit for safe document design. A hundred years from now a programmer with no exposure to Mellel could extract an ASCII version of a Mellel document without trouble.

It's a safe format.

epub heading flow, tag headings flow

I'm not sure what these options do in epub export. They are found in the "Spine, TOC & Notes" tab. The heading flow and tag headings flow seem to be paragraph styles, not auto-flows, and no matter what I select the TOC looks the same. This could be due to the software I'm using to view the ebook, to...

Re: Changing foot notes to end notes

Aha! Figured out the "below text" option. If you have a note set to display at the bottom of the page, that's where it always goes. If it's set to appear below text, it will appear immediately below the text of the page. If the page is half full, the footnote will be in the middle of the page. If th...

Re: Changing foot notes to end notes

The notes section of chapter 4 of the manual covers note streams. Section/paragraph 9 on page 66 discusses changing note positions with this comment, "Changing the notes placement essentially changes them from footnotes to endnotes." On a casual test, it appears to work fine. A footnote isn't really...

Re: Inserting citations from Bookends

Curious - under Accessiblity I see Bookends but it is not allowed to control my computer.

But command-Y/control-command-Y work. I have to have Bookends open, otherwise command-Y just gets a disappointed beep.

Interesting.

Re: Inserting citations from Bookends

Forgot - there is also a bibliography setting in Mellel's preferences - mine gives the options of Bookends and Sente.

Re: Inserting citations from Bookends

I have Mellel 5 and Bookends and can't duplicate the problem. In the Bookends preferences, do you have Mellel 5 selected? That option is called 'word processor' in the general category in Bookends' preferences. If that's set to a now-missing Mellel 4, maybe that's the problem. Might be worth a look,...

Re: Exporting document in WORD Format

I don't use Word (good parenting), but I think the suggestions Jannuss has will reveal the headers/footers situation, if that's the cause.

Re: Exporting document in WORD Format

Is Word including empty headers and footers that are eating into your print area with white space? Just a thought.

Re: Handling images in a Hebrew document

I don't think the table strategy lets you put the image to the right or left without leaving a gap in the text. If there's a way to wrap text around a table, I've missed it. I see, however, a couple of workarounds. First - and ickiest, but not really that bad - open a new one page document using the...

Re: Handling images in a Hebrew document

How do you anchor an image to a span of text used as a caption? It's possible to make a one column, two row table to bundle an image and a caption, but I don't see options to anchor or float a table, or wrap text around a table.

Re: Handling images in a Hebrew document

Janet's probably got better ideas than I have, but here's a couple of quick observations. If you click on a picture, it will gain little square "handles" you can resize it with, and you can click and drag it to reposition it. There's also a trash can icon, in case your photos turn out like mine, and...

Re: set up an "SSL server certificate"

Actually, the site has a cert. You can go to https://forum.mellel.com. It's a self-signed cert, which has no impact on security other than not having a chain of trust to follow. The cryptography between browser and web server is the same. You'll have to tell your browser you trust Mellel's self-sign...
