Thanks for the reply, but this wasn't the problem.
I've now solved it: Apple have 'hidden' the Application Support folder in Lion. For everyone else who will suffer the same confusion, just make it visible then drop the custom bits in there as usual.

Migrating to a new machine
I have a new mac and am have installed (and re-registered) my copy of Mellel, but I seem unable to activate my custom settings, style sets, etc. I have copied the 'Mellel' folder from my old mac's "Application Support" folder, and dropped it into the same place on the new machine, but this...

Re: Small Caps in Citations - Bookends?
Hi, Mellel has a great automated find / replace system just for bibliography entries. You can find it under preferences / bibliography. Make Bookends produce the volume number in bold italic underline, or something suitable unlikely. In Mellel preferences, make "bold italic underline" bec...

Re: Small Caps in Citations - Bookends?
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've been in touch with Jon, but wondered if anyone had found a good workaround for this. Find and replace searching for 'I' produces hundreds of results in my 1000+ footnotes, and doesn't solve the problem of finding every volume number I have used at some point (ie. I, I...

Small Caps in Citations - Bookends?
Dear All, I have seen this issue briefly in a previous thread, but it didn't go anywhere so I'm trying afresh: If I am using MHRA format (http://www.mhra.org.uk/Publications/Books/StyleGuide/download.shtml) I am required to list the volume number of multi-volume works in small caps. ie. Karl Marx, T...

Re: Select all instances of paragraph style
Hi Ozean & Benja While Ozean is right that 'Replace Styles' allows you to replace all occurrences, there are still occasions when it would be useful merely to find or highlight all the occurrences oneself. For example if I have used a particular style to indicate something, and now want to run t...

Re: Chapter Word Count
I agree, this would be really helpful. To have section or sub-section word counts would be great. To implement it with the outline pane would be one neat trick, but a more comprehensive solution would also be good. I currently have an Excel spreadsheet with chapters with word counts in them which I ...

Citation Format Overrides
Dear All, I have a little question and wonder if anyone can help. I'm using Bookends to produce a document which uses citations in footnotes with a separate format for my bibliography. In the Mellel preferences, I have the option to control exactly how my Bookends Bibliography format is mapped into ...

Version Stability
Dear All, Does anybody know whether it is wise to upgrade from v2.5 to v2.7.3 while using OS 10.4.11 (and Bookends 10.5.3). Are there are any compatibility / safety issues anyone can think of? And is it possible to keep Mellel 2.5 operational in case of difficulties? ie. how do I prevent the new ver...

Re: Table of Contents - Out of Control
Thanks to all who helped, especially Ori Redler; the problem was caused by the 'Keep Lines Together' option being active in TOC styles. This is the case (in Mellel 2.5) even if you uncheck the box: the value in the lines box (underneath) must be set to zero to prevent this happening once ToCs become...

Re: Table of Contents - Out of Control
Dear All, I have returned to this task in the last few days. Florestan provided me a neat auto-title setup, which seemed to work fine. I customised it slightly and have been carefully re-assembling my long document in this format. I checked producing a ToC each time a pasted in a new chapter. It was...

Re: Table of Contents - Out of Control
Hi Florestan, Thanks for the message. I'm glad, although also disappointed, that this was not only my problem with the ToC. I think I also tried to create separate ToC styles to avoid the page-breaking problem, but still was nowhere near solving how to get page numbers to appear in a consistent colu...

Table of Contents - Out of Control
Dear All Mellel People, I'm in the latter stages of producing a long document, ie. 100,000+ words, using Mellel 2.5 (I know) and Bookends 10.5.3. I'm still using an iBook G4 so don't want to upgrade in case the whole thing grinds to a halt and these versions seem to be working fine and fairly stable...

SideNotes
Hi, Would it be possible to implement a new type of footnote stream, with the option of locating the notes at the side of the page, rather than at the bottom? This would be really useful and makes for a much better reading experience, a bit like reading one's own hand-written marginalia. In the same...

Footnotes - all round
Hi, I have the same problem as Boban and the others (and David F Garrett on an earlier post). There is no reason why Mellel shouldn't be able to keep the footnotes and references all together on one page, it's really basic! Can anyone explain how to fix this? It's embarrassing to produce such docume...
