Re: a problem with ligatures
I will take a look at Libertine. I have started using Cardo with success. That seems to stabilize things a bit. Thanks.

a problem with ligatures
I have a very long manuscript (1100 pages) and several months ago started having a problem that seems to be related to ligatures. I am using a number of technical symbols, and my primary font is Times New Roman. These symbols are at times being replaced with the vertical rectangular box. If I simply...

Re: Little Boxes in Specialized Font Input
Thanks for the response. The change to the fonts you mentioned worked. However, I had been creating these same characters before from within unicode fonts like Gentium and Times New Roman. I am not sure why that quit working.
However, I can move on using these alternate fonts. Thanks.

Little Boxes in Specialized Font Input
I have long used certain Mathmatical Fraktur symbols in my Mellel documents. Suddenly (since installing Moutain Lion?) I get the little unicode box instead of the symbol. The symbol still works in MSWord, so the font is on the computer. Does anyone have an idea of how to correct the problem? Thanks.

Re: Live Bibliography & Bookends
Jon, I did a rebuild. I also found that I had a number of unresolved references in my document and took care of those. However, when I use Live Bibliography, which does work now, it takes about 35-40 seconds for the reference to show up in the document (the beach ball is spinning while waiting), and...

Live Bibliography & Bookends
I have just upgraded to Mellel 3.0 and love the new feature set and redesign. However, when I attempt to use Live Bib, Mellel freezes (when I click on a source to use in the document), with the spinning beach ball of death. If I Force Quit Bookends (which I have also just updated to the most recent ...

No backup files in Application Support/Mellel/Backup
For awhile now my Mellel files have not been backing up (yes the boxes are checked in preferences). What can I do to correct the problem?
Thanks for the help.

Nicka, Thanks for the help. I finally figured out what precipitated the problem of multiple versions of my styles showing up: changing and replacing certain character styles in the document when there were paragraph styles still associated with the old character styles. So my Regular paragraph style...

Nicka, That is what confuses me. The names and settings are exactly the same in both cases. Regular is listed as part of the style set but is also listed as a style with a diamond to the left. The same is the case with three other styles--same name in the regular set and down below with diamonds to ...

one more bit of information
Thanks, Don.
One more bit of information: I actually have several of my main character styles (as well as the "Regular" para. style) showing up with diamonds next to them at the bottom of the style lists. No plus or minus sign. Just diamonds to the left. Why is this?

Regular Italic not displaying
I am new to Mellel and have produced a fifty page document. Regular character style was defined with GentiumAlt font and the paragraph regular style was oriented to the regular character style; also, I have been using the Fkey method of doing variables, and italic was displaying correctly. Today I c...
