Mellel's Newsletter #26 -- 31-July-2007 Our Mystery Product -- We also plan to release in the near future a nice little application -- free for all. The application will is called PakaPaka Studio and, while we'll keep it shrouded in mystery for the time being, I can assure you that it will produce ...

Re: Unicode and Find
This is probably the standard behaviour for searching. However, I suggest the user should be able to choose the preferred Normalization Form, just as you can distinguish or ignore capitalization. In short, add the option “[] ignore variant characters”.

Wishlist 2008
Two years ago, Ori Redler posted a list of five new features scheduled for 2006 (among them cross-referencing). Is there such a list for the next 12 months? What’s on it? Suggestions in the Nitty-Gritty forum have been piling up. Those are my personal favourites: A “Language” option for style variat...

Re: Spotlight and Quick Look
But how long can it take to write such a plugin? There used to be a spotlight plugin for Tiger, so it can’t be rocket science. And as a matter of fact they’ve been announcing cross-reference support since mid-2006. I only come to the conclusion that the Redlers have put development for Mellel on hold.

Spotlight and Quick Look
I wonder when the plugins for Mac OS 10.5 will be available. Am I the only one who gets the impression that development at RedleX is suspended?

When you want a small caps word that starts with a normal Cap, you need only type the normal Cap, then press the small-caps-F key for the following letters, and then press F1 when you are done with typing small caps. a) This is not proper markup, and if someone has to substitute small caps for, say...

If we are considering language styles at all, then we are imagining some way of yoking together (at least) scripts, keyboard layouts and spelling dictionaries in user-defined ways. Nicka, the flags in Mac OS X mean “country”, not “language”: The German keyboard has its name because this is the pred...

my original idea had been to make switching languages as little of an effort as possible. My suggestion is to have all language-related stuff on Character Style level (including automatic dictionary selection and hyphenation). Switching between English and Russian would merely be a matter of pressi...

For those of you who still believe that assigning flags and keyboards to languages “is an excellent way of doing things”: http://www.w3.org/TR/i18n-html-tech-lang/#ri20040808.173208643 Do not use flag icons to indicate languages. Use text. Discussion: Flags represent countries, not languages. Numero...

almost any language you would want to write in has its own keyboard layout, even if these are often almost identical (Dutch and US being a case in point). Why should I change my keyboard setting for writing in French or English, if I can use my Austrian keyboard layout? This cold be achieved by hav...

The language style will also have settings for word boundaries. This includes whitespace and/or punctuation to let Mellel differentiate between one word and another of that language. That’s the point! Why should the application decide for me whether the question mark belongs to the Hebrew or to the...
