Re: Mellel 4 Questions

I also really don't like the new icon. It's too cartoony, and like many other icons, blue. I also don't like the new icons for Mellel files. They are blue--exactly the same blue as the icons for Word documents, such that when I have the Finder in list view, I can't tell the difference between them (...

Re: Global Styles always greyed out

That might be. But if I try to use the style in more than one document, the styles don't match (wrong font, size, format, etc).

Global Styles always greyed out

Hello, I can't find an answer to this on the forums or the Mellel guide. The "make style global" button in the edit styles menu is always greyed out, and I don't know how to make the styles global. The current styles are in the Application Support folder, but I don't know if that is where they belon...

Bookends scanning problem

I'm not sure if this is a Bookends or Mellel problem. I have been able to scan Mellel documents with no problems up until last fall, and haven't changed anything except for updates. But today when I scanned my current document, it goes through all the motions, but no citations appear in the notes, e...

Re: Find/Replace citation numbers

Thank you for the answers. The paper was not long, so in the end I simply moved all the periods by hand. It sure would be nice to be able to insert a "footnote reference" into the search box.

Find/Replace citation numbers

I imported a file from Scrivener to finalize it for publication. As imported, sentences with footnotes have a period at the end, followed by a reference symbol [that is, it looks like this: sentence.(#)].My journal requires that I have the period after the reference symbol [that is, it should look l...

Re: How do I control space above and below table text?

I have the same question, but this has apparently gone unanswered for four years? I also want to know 1) if there a way to equalize column width without changing row height, and 2) if there is a way of changing the width/height of a single column/row, without changing the width or height of the othe...

Re: creating new style sets

I'm afraid I still have no luck. I removed the stylesets folder, reopened Mellel, and opened the file with the revised "Outline" styleset. This time I could click the "global" icon, and I did that. I closed the file, and opened another with the "outline" styleset, but it did not use the new formats,...

Re: creating new style sets

The "Update document styles" button is checked. I assume that means that it should follow the modified style set.

Re: creating new style sets

I am also having difficulty figuring out global style sets. The Global button on the "Edit style sets" window is greyed out for all my style sets. I assume this means they are already global. I changed a style set (called "Outline") on document A to make it work consistently over a set of documents....

Re: Continuous list numbering?

I, too, would find such a renumbering system useful. For example, the way lists work now, each item must be a single paragraph. It would be nice to have multiple paragraphs in a single item on the list.

Thank you. I knew there had to be a simple solution, but it might be easier if you included a menu of these items directly on the find window in a future version.

Searching for certain characters

I have looked at the manual, the tutorial, and fiddled extensively with the search/replace feature, but I cannot figure out how to search/replace tabs or returns or other non-text characters in the document. neither can be entered directly. Am I missing something?

Thank you for the solution. After playing with replace styles a bit, I found out how to do this. Now if I could select more than one footnote at once to replace styles...

I would second this notion. I am new to Mellel and Bookends and find them to be great products, but the styles problem from imported text needs to be resolved somehow, especially the text from Bookends. And, as far as I know, _all_ Mac programs use ad hoc styling, so importing any styled text presen...
