Re: selecting non-contiguous text

Regarding the niche-market vs general market argument - theoretically, of course, it would be best to aim for as large a market as possible, but in practice that involves catering to the needs of such a wide variety of users that it becomes nearly impossible to implement all the features this would ...

Re: selecting non-contiguous text

I feel that Mellel is being done slight injustice here in being described primarily as a niche product for people needing advanced OpenType and RTL functionality. I think its niche is actually much broader - Mellel still is, for example, the only Word processor on the Mac which can hyphenate Russian...

Re: spelling and grammar checker

Please, correct me if I am mistaken, but Mellel simply uses the System Wide Spell Checker, so the Redlers are not really in a position to improve smth. in this respect. Only if they would create their own spell-checking infrastructure this would be an option, but I strongly think this is NOT the pat...

For all information on the use of non-English languages on the Mac I highly recommend this regularly updated resource:

Re: Images are blurry.... what to do?

This what I do to get charts and tables from Excel 2004 to Mellel: Charts: format them as you want in Excel, then either drag and drop them into Mellel or, in case your charts fill a whole Excel sheet (dragging and dropping does not work in this case), select the entire chart, copy it to the clipboa...

This sort of reformatting can be done with the help of the freeware System-service Word Service provided by Devon Technologies: http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/services.html This is particuarly powerful if your install their free Hot Service as well, which makes the Service menu ...

I am perfectly aware of the difference between nationality and language, but I couldn't care less about political correctness when trying to find an efficient way of achieving things in word processing. So, let it be text, I don't mind, only it would unnecessarily confuse things since the OS does us...

So it appears this idea of mine is actually more versatile than I thought. Now, of course, my original idea had been to make switching languages as little of an effort as possible. Therefore I had thought of using the standard keyboard shortcuts for switching between keyboard layouts, since this wou...

Let me chime in on this as the author who originally suggested linking language to script - regardless of the script almost any language you would want to write in has its own keyboard layout, even if these are often almost identical (Dutch and US being a case in point). Therefore, one could couple ...

I would want to second rpcameron - I find autocorrection an annoying feature in applications, and routinely turn this off wherever possible.

We have been discussing these issues in February of this year, and this is what I posted at that time: From the point of view of people using languages with different script systems the ideal solution would be to have text automatically tagged as belonging to a language based on the input mode used ...

Re: zoom levels

Alas, the zoom level I had been hoping for, is not there - 140% - Times New Roman 12 on my iBook 14 inch looks too small in 128% and too large in 150% - what is there against allowing users to specify their own percentages, like in Word?
