I recently upgraded to Lion (no, not Mountain Lion). Ever since then, the Apple spell checker does not work in Mellel. I cannot seem to find a way to turn it back on.
Any ideas?

superscript and Bookends
I have recently started using Bookends (after being an EndNote user since version 2), and am consequently learning to use it with Mellel. I have a couple questions. 1. I have tried setting the preferences in Mellel to use specific paragraph styles for Bookends bibliographies. However these seem to n...

Imbedded PDFs don't print properly
I have a fairly long document with about 170 small PDF files containing EPS vector drawings imbedded in the text. I have two problems when printing. 1. If the PDFs/images are at the top of the page, they are cut off at the top as they are larger than the x-height of the typeface, but fit within the ...

Re: graphics being resized when file opened
I've sent a sample file to Support as requested. Basically it seems that 2.7.1 resizes the images on reopen but this is not permanent unless you save. For example, I can open the file in 2.7.0 with no problem, the open it in 2.7.1 and the resizing occurs. If I save and then reopen in 2.7.0 the resiz...

Re: graphics being resized when file opened
Just to add some further information, this is only happening with 2.7.1. The same file opened in 2.7.0 is not having the problem. I have tried different files as well, with the same sorts of results.

graphics being resized when file opened
I have been having problems with vector graphics being resized when I reopen a document. When I paste them in initially, there is no problem, but once I close and reopen the document, the vertical scale has often been change (not the horizontal scale). Is there some way of preventing this behavior? ...

Re: Insert minus sign?
Right, the "plus" sign (+) is also missing - I guess it's commonly done by using the normal keyboard options? I also never use the mathematical "multiplication" one, but just generally "x". I don't know if there's a "mathematical" difference or just a typogra...

Insert minus sign?
Am I blind, or is there no "insert minus sign" under Insert Special Characters --> Mathematical? This should be Unicode 2212. Yes, I can do it manually with the Unicode keyboard or the Character Palette, but I would have thought that would be an option in Mellel.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Bug: Page margins and tabs in Header and Footer
I seem to be having a similar problem. I am trying to set up a document to A4 paper size with margins of 72 pt top and bottom (= 1 inch), and 90 pt on the left and right. This looks just fine on the screen, but when I print the footer is entirely too high up on the page. If I set the bottom margin t...

I've never had a single publisher ask for small caps in a bibliography (I'm in Humanities) – is this common in some disciplines? It is very common in the Humanities in Continental Europe, at least in France, Germany, the Low Countries, and Scandinavia; I am not sure about elsewhere, but imagine thi...

You can, however, reprogram the F keys and their styles. So, for example, you can make F5 italic+small caps, if you so wish: In the Character Menu, choose Edit Normal, and assign both characteristics to the F5 key. Of course, you can reassign any or all eight of the F keys used for styles, to set w...

Re: FrameMaker to XML to Mellel?
How can I migrate a FrameMaker file to Mellel efficiently? Would it be possible to save the FM file as XML and then reopen in Mellel? This seems to be complicated with FM sitting in Classic mode. Horrible problem. If you have access to Framemaker on a Windows machine you can try using Mif2Go and sa...

I'm all for the David vs. Goliath thing going on: Mellel/Bookends vs. Word/Endnote. :D (and if you remember your bible stories, David won) Mellel does import and save MS Word documents, no doubt by virtue of the fact that Word support of some sort is almost mandatory despite what anyone may think o...

I'm pretty sure Endnote is not supported because they don't care. Thomson is notorious for its bad support. Endnote hasn't seen any real new features in years, all they do is release a $100 bugfix every year. Although it's functionality is great it's a buggy piece of crap and I advise everyone not ...

But if we were going for completeness and fairness, Endnote X would need to be added to this list as well. This may begin to add too much work for the Redlers and delay other worthy causes. I believe, however, that Endnote has a larger user base than any of the other products, so it seems odd it ha...
