Thanks, I'm familiar with the keyboard viewer, but Apple's new solution is a lot more elegant, and it's a nuisance to have to switch between different modes of entering accented letters, depending on what application you're in.

Nope, still not possible. Is this feature difficult to implement? Can we get some input from the developers? This would seem to me a pretty useful and important feature.
