Selecting text in multiple table cells
I want to search or search-and-replace with text within a contiguous range of table cells (e.g. a column). As far as I can tell, you can select text within a single cell (by clicking and dragging within the cell), or within the entire table (by clicking and dragging outside the table). If you select...

Re: Manuscript for publication: doc, PDF and InDesign?
This is a serious problem, for all the reasons mentioned here. People have been complaining about it for years. I have a clunky workaround which I haven't tried, but which should work. Attach to each character style a feature you don't use. For example, edit character style 1 to have a yellow backgr...

Re: List formatting not working
I had hoped that the list style would include specifying paragraph and character styles for each level in the list. That doesn't seem to be the case, then.

List formatting not working
I am creating a list (using the built-in bullet style). If I try to change the appearance of the list using the attribute pane in the palette, or by modifying the list style, only changes to the font family are reflected in the text. Any other changes (font face, size, color, etc.) affect the list m...

Re: A clarification regarding Mellel 4.0.3 and "Diamond styles"
A long-time issue is that you can't search for text styled with a document character style. When you bring up the "find" dialog, the diamond styles are hidden in the character style palette.
Is there any reason for that? Will that be fixed?

Re: Mellel 4 Questions
I did "Check for Updates..." and was given an option to upgrade to 4.0, which I did. However, the version number in the about box is 4.0.0b81. Does that mean it's a beta and got updated by mistake? There is no official update announcement in the forum, and the blog says it will be released "very soo...

Does 4.0 export styles to Word files?
Re: Mellel 4
It looks like Mellel is adding more authoring features, along the line of what Scrivener does. While those would be quite welcome, I beg the Redlers to not forget addressing long-neglected existing design issues, even if they are not as exciting. The style system is a convoluted mess: if anything wi...

Re: What's next for Mellel 3.4?
Top things which despite everything else about Mellel, tempt me to switch to other word processors: -- Styles. Document styles and global styles tend to proliferate, and it's very hard to organize them. The minimum, at this point, would be to enable searching for styled text by document style. Right...

Jumpy find
If you are searching for a string using the Find dialog and Mellel finds it, its behavior is to scroll the text so the found string is at a certain position within the window, a bit below the top. This happens even if the found text was already within the window, perhaps even on a line where one has...

Using search string from other applications
Apologies for what may be more of a general Mac question:
If I type in a search string in another (Cocoa?) application, typically that search string will be copied to the search field in Mellel when I switch back to it. How can this behavior be disabled?

How to keep tables from splitting across pages
The title says it all... Is there something like the "keep together" paragraph attribute which would move a table to the next page rather than just split it and move some rows?

Misplaced diacritics
I have a problem with combining diacritics not being placed correctly. I am using Mellel 2.7.1 and OS X 10.5.8. With some fonts (Times Regular) the combining diacritics are so far to the right of the modified letter that they appear to be over the following letter. With others (Minion Pro) they just...

Re: Non-unicode characters
rpcameron: Yes, I am trying to reproduce text from an older publication, using this obsolete orthography (Wilhelm Schmidt's Anthropos alphabet, see Anthropos v. 2 (1907) if you are really curious.) As I recall, their r with the wiggle I am talking about corresponds to the usual IPA r. Without the wi...
