Ha, Maria. To the point, as always. I completely agree with you re DT. That's how I use it as well. And I agree that nothing else comes close to it, and I have tried many. But I also know there's no 'one size fits all' for everyone. :) And if you can't see how it makes sense for you, than I guess it...

I've also been playing around with outlining. I really really like how I can drag sections about, and completely reorder my document. I've tried doing that in LaTeX and I ended up crying. No need for tears. This is the thing I love most about Mellel and why it is the only choice for me for word pro...

Hi. I thought I'd add my two cents to this discussion, since I am writing an academic book, of sorts, in Mellel (my dissertation) and find its outlining capabilities to be invaluable. In Word, I was constantly frustrated by having to divide my chapters into separate files, since I never felt comfort...

I'm not fully opposed to this idea, as long as it's an option that can be disabled. Also, if it's going to be implemented, I'm going to recommend doing it the TeX way: 1 hyphen = hyphen; 2 hyphens = en dash; 3 hyphens = em dash. This way it would make it easier to insert en dashes as well, and does...
While you may use the em dash for more frequently, please remember that not all locales or styles use the same typography. When we use an em dash in American English, British English style usually calls for an en dash surrounded by thin spaces. Also, American English style also calls for an en dash...

I notice this happens in programs that use Apple's spell checker. Once you have told it to learn a word, try clicking on an instance of the word that still has red highlighting or underlining and the highlighting should disappear. I think it's just a bug in the system spell checker, but someone may ...
Only half-true. The Word feature that converts two hyphens into an em dash also controls the auto-correct for common misspellings. If we're going to go this route, I'd prefer one hyphen for a hyphen, two for an en dash and three for an em dash (just like TeX). Yes, I know this about Word. I was ref...
I'm certain that if you searched through the fora you could find past discussions on auto-correct and similar types of functions for Mellel. Most users fall into one of two categories: those who desperately miss these functions from Word (but who could live without it), and those who vehemently des...

Thanks, Don, for the response. Yes, I thought of sending things as pdf files, but right now some of what I send has to be altered somewhat. So I'm asked to send them as Word files. I pretty much have to do what I'm asked in those cases! So I was wondering the best way to set it up so I can do that. ...

Donb, I have a couple of questions I thought you might be able to answer. I admit I do find Mellel a little hard to get a hold of at times, though once I figure out how to do something, I generally remember it from then on! My biggest concern with Mellel is being able to get it into a format that pu...
Hello Wolfgang, Many congratulations on finishing your thesis!! I'm on the final chapter of my dissertation, but am not yet finished. Almost, but not quite! Thanks for sharing your experiences with Mellel. I am having a similar issue with different languages—I have some citations in German (no, I do...
