Re: Interlinear glossing

What you want is "Ruby text", aka "Furgana". I am well aware of furigana/ruby, but that is something different. What I need is support for multiple stacked glosses (5), with the main flow going RTL, but some glosses going LTR, and proper wrapping within a column (and kept in syn...

Interlinear glossing

I realized my last purchase for Mellel was in Nov 21, just outside of the update window for Mellel 6. However, whether I consider to continue using Mellel is whether it can finally meet my needs after decades of missing features. Simply: can Mellel finally do interlinear glossing, specifically for m...

Re: defaults

It could, but that would require the Redlers to write a DOC(X) importer. The DOC(X) importers used in Mellel are those that are part of OS X, and the features that are supported differ with every OS X version. To see what features *can* be imported look at which features TextEdit support, as that is...

Re: adding one language to another

Have you tried setting up 2 different page styles, one for the RTL Hebrew style, and another for the LTR English? Then, you can use a Page Style Break between the 2 documents to separate them. If that won't work, the other way I see to achieve this is to have 2 separate documents. Export/print each ...

Re: minor request for OS dictionary pop-up

BTW: There was a request for the feature in the forums dated 29 Jan 2009 that includes a workaround that approximates the floating dictionary window by calling the Dictionary app and opening it with the curretnly highlighted word in Mellel—perhaps that would suffice for your needs. (I remembered the...

Re: minor request for OS dictionary pop-up

No, this does not work in Mellel, and probably never will. Mellel does not use OS X's text engine or controls, so thsoe features have to be implemented separately and from-scratch to be included in Mellel. As far as the disctionary popup, I hope the Redlers spend their time working on features that ...

Re: Speller

The reason is becaue Mellel does not use Apple's text controls/engine. Therefore, all of the standard features you expect to work in text fields and controls (such as word completion, Emacs bindings, spell checking, dictionary popups, &c.) do not exist in Mellel.

Re: Character Spacing

If, as seems unlikely, Mellel is not to have character spacing, is QuarkXPress compatible with Mellel? That is, can I take text, including footnotes and quotations of poetry and the like, from Mellel to Quark? I read a week to two ago what I reckoned was the near-perfectly designed book: Michael In...

Re: autonumbering and xrefs

Yes, Mellel can handle autonumbering setups like that with no problem. Look into the Auto-Title feature of Mellel; you can mix and match numbering schemes, choose which level of numbering to display (even omitting a level if you choose) and also insert any free text you wish around the numbers, incl...

Re: Numbering rows in a table

TextEdit will give me a numbered list, and, if - or rather, when -- I forget some item and need to insert it later, it will adjust the numbering automatically. I have always got Pages if I need more than that. Thank you for the suggestions. That's exactly what I was proposing. Mellel does indeed su...

Re: Numbering rows in a table

Thank you. Janet, but that will rule out Mellel. TextEdit it must be. I suppose if you're going the TextEdit route, its implementation will be similar to Mellel's. What about a numbered list with a tab stop in the paragraph? Numbering is handled automatically, and you just type the first column, hi...

Re: Numbering rows in a table

The easiest way is to add an extra column for the numbers. However, if you are talking about automatically, then no. For situations such as that, I personally coy the text into a text editor such as vim, TextMate or similar, process the information there, then copy it back. Mellel's tables are lacki...

Re: Auto-title Find and Replace?

I personally use MultiMarkdown, which includes additional features. Thanks! I found a free app called Texts http://www.texts.io Does MultiMarkdown have the ability to import OPML? Then convert it to MD? MultiMarkdown only takes MMD documents as input, then exports those. However, there are XSLT fil...

Re: Copy and paste between different paragraph styles

Style variations will do that. Just set up your variations similarly, so when you change paragraph/character styles, the underlying text retains which variation it is. So are you saying I can apply a partial character style to a text...? If I have a text with red and bold and superscript etc all mi...

Re: Copy and paste between different paragraph styles

On a related note, I would also like to copy and paste text and retain the character style. But I'd also like to simply change certain aspects of the style. For example, if a text has color or bold and I wish to retain that, but change the font and size, can I apply a partial style? Or create a sty...
