Re: Using/Printing comments

Thanks, Venesy, only this doesn't work.

Unchecking Annotations on Exporrt PDF removes the annotations plane but not the changes themselves.

If I changed the letter a to b I will get crossed out a followed by b. This is not a "clean" document.

Re: Using/Printing comments

OK, I found it: you turn off comments by deactivating Track Changes

Grrrrrrrrrr

Now I like comments even less.

Using/Printing comments

Friends, I've never liked comments: I find they rapidly get very messy and confusing. But, some of my colleagues insist on using them. What I lack is means to export my document to pdf and/or print it clean of all comments -- I only wish to see the final version, not the deleted words. This is such ...

Re: French typography : automatic no-break before ? ; : !

Hi Marcoup, The question of straight versus curved apostrophes is also a font issue. With an American English keyboard, cap-option-] gives a right-curving apostrophe for some fonts and q right-straight one for others. Similarly, cap-option-[ sometimes gives a left-curving apostrophe and sometimes le...

In InDesign there is an option called “No break” which prevents a line break across the selected characters. I could really use that in Mellel as well.
Thomas
Not exactly a solution, but close: Insert/Special Characters/Space includes several no-break options

Re: A Mellel PDF becomes unintelligible

Just looked it up: "imposition" is the process of printing multiple pages on both sides of a single large sheet so that when the sheet is folded the pages fall into order with the correct orientation. This is a very well-defined process: printing four pages on a single large sheet, the front of shee...

Re: A Mellel PDF becomes unintelligible

OK. I spoke with my printer: He doesn't remember the specific problem I had, but he agrees that these kind of problems are usually font-oriented. If, he says, an error message appears about a bad font as soon as you go to print, that's it. The file is useless. However, if no message appears, the sol...

Re: A Mellel PDF becomes unintelligible

So, it was a "strange" font afterall.

I'll ask my printer what he did to work around the problem that I had.

Re: A Mellel PDF becomes unintelligible

I had something similar when I tried to print a pdf generated by WORD which I received from a large organization. My printer -- who was able to print it -- explained that the cause was unusual/special-purpose fonts. I suspect the PC/Mac divide may have contributed to the problem. Are you using speci...

Re: Quote Marks in Hebrew?

Andrew, You've given me a lot of food for thought -- I never bothered to differentiate between apostrophe and gerish before. Most of the fonts I use are purchased from Israeli foundries. Here too there is no common ground. The people at fontbit, for example, define straight or curved marks depending...

Re: Quote Marks in Hebrew?

And, Andrew, once you solve the problem of quotes, there are a few other issues you will have to address 1. Transliteration: writing a foreign word in Hebrew characters can be difficult if you don't have the right characters. For example, my name, Janet. There is no "J" character in Hebrew. I write ...

Re: Quote Marks in Hebrew?

And, by the way, please, please, please don't use Times New Roman.

It has a long history of creating problems with right-to-left text.

Newer versions of the font are generally OK. but you never know when you are going to fall on an older version.

Re: Quote Marks in Hebrew?

Andrew, Short answer: all good modern Hebrew fonts include both straight and curved or slanted quote marks. Straight marks may be more common, but curved/slanted left and right quote marks are also used. Upper/lower quotes are not generally used. Long answer: I don't know what the official solution ...

Re: All text in italics on Ipad version of document

I'd first check to make sure that all the fonts you use on your MACOS version of Mellel are available on the iPad.
Next, I'd check that the style sets were transferred over correctly.
