Re: Switching to Greek and Hebrew

Shades, running Mellel4.0.3b6 with Mac OS 13.2 I haven't managed to duplical your problem. I don't have Libertine fonts, but I switch between languages in Mellel easily using any number of fonts and the keyboard shortcut cmd-space. So, I suspect the problem is in defining the function keys. How did ...

Re: Mellel font size

Hi Raymond and everyone, There is another partially related issue with font size and English/Hebrew texts. Because Hebrew fonts have to leave room for upper and lower vowel marks, the remaining space for the actual letters often looks small when placed on the same text line with English letters. Whe...

Wish list for sections

Friends, With Mellel 4 now firmly in place, I'd like to revisit the requests many of us have posted in the past for improvements to Sections 1. non-symmetric sections: the ability to set the width of each section independently 2. independent text flow: the text in each column flows vertically into t...

Re: Thank you for "Background (on screen)"

As I said, I'm just starting to paly with this, but so for the combinations I like are -- pale green: 225/255/235 -- light lavender: 225/220/255 -- pale yellow/orange: 255/240/210 Janet P.S. I also use background colors on my major Finder folders. That way I know which ones are open at a glance. [wi...

Re: Thank you for "Background (on screen)"

Interesting

I also work late at night and will give this a try.

In it's "Night Shift" option, Apple suggest that warmer colors are better at night, so I'm trying out a pale yellow-blue

Help using tracking changes

Friends, I don't like tracking changes. The documents I create tend more toward advertising copy than straight text: the layout of the page is often as important as the contents. Correcting/updating the page via tracking changes makes it very difficult to understand how the change will affect the la...

Re: Stop Creating New Documents. Please...

That's fair: you want Mellel to do somethingexceptioknal that other apps don't do.

I just think you should make that clear, that's all.

Re: Stop Creating New Documents. Please...

OK I get where you guys are coming from and I agree that applications should offer users the maximum options possible to support their specific needs. The option to do nothing is certainly a valid option. My question is: do you know a single application that works this way? I can't think of one. Janet

Re: Stop Creating New Documents. Please...

I just want the program to become active — that's all — so I can quickly make my own choices with the keyboard. I just want Mellel to become active, THEN to stay out of my way, so I can do what I want, or need, to do. Miles, I hear you: you want to work the way you want to work but -- first, do you...

Re: Small caps for LORD

It's customary to print LORD in small caps in English translations of the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible when in the Hebrew there's the Divine Name of YHWH, which Jews would never pronounce as it's the sacred Name of God, so they'd pronounce "Adonai," Lord, instead. Hence LORD in English. Yes, this I u...

Re: Small caps for LORD

Thanks much. I have to export the document to Word for the publisher; maybe it'd make more sense to do the smallcaps formatting in Word, esp if I can't be confident Mellel would transfer it over properly. Is there some reason that you are forced to use small caps? If not, then I would go with all c...

Re: Small caps for LORD

So I'm writing a book, using palatino, and I've figured out finally how to small cap LORD. I have to write it out as lord and then format it using the character open type options in the character palette. But it looks really odd, like it's too small. Any ideas on (1) how to do a sort of find-replac...

Re: English punctuation in a RTL context

I understand what you are saying, A.D., but I still think placing the question mark on the right is "wrong"

I find שׁבץ seizure of weakness? cramp? very readable
but seizure of weakness? cramp? שׁבץ looks strange to me.

Re: English punctuation in a RTL context

This is not my problem, but I would like to know how to fix it. The goal is to create a lexical list for Hebrew, with a Hebrew term followed by English glosses. With the Hebrew term leading, the document is set up to be Right-to-Left. The problem is when the English gloss is uncertain and I put a q...

Re: Document setup

you understand very well, I did the A5 size (148x210mm) in Document Setup. After I create a new page style, because the existing one is still A4 (210x297 mm), after I created a new page style and I see that it is set to 210x297 mm. It should be 148x210. Dantoe Document setup does not change the pag...
