I'd like Mellel to be that flexible that it allows me to tick a box for the required element that I'd like to get "sorted". Mainly: "words", but also dates (date format), numbers and outline numbers (2.1 follows 2 and not 1.9, e.g.). You're giving me the how -- not the what. Wha...

Re: Feature Request: table palette

If I haven't missed something Mellel does not provide an option to set the table's orientation on the page: left, center, right should be standard. one more would be justified. You can set the orientation of any existing table by highlightling the entire table then selecting the appropriate text or...

I'm not really clear what "sort" in a word processor would mean. Usually sorts are performed on well-defined entities [lines, records, objects, etc.] based on well-defined keys [leading character of, value of, nth element of, etc.] How would you expect Mellel to deine sort elements/keys? J...

Styles won't cut it. A default font will, and a style should reference the default (well, the typeface at least) unless it's changed I believe you are mistaken, Styles will exactly and precisely solve the problem you have raised. Chapter 19 of the Mellel Tutorial for Beginners describes how you can...

Re: text flowing around images

this issue has been raised more than once. is it an urgent feature? This issue has been discussed a number of times. There's a simple work around: create a table; place your image in one cell and position the text in the other cell(s). Thanks to the work around, I wouldn't call it urgent, rather us...

Re: Feature Request: tategaki writing for Japanese

I have not found any way to write with a tategaki style when I am writing in Japanese. That is, writing in columns from top to bottom and right to left. Have you tried using Columns [Sections]? If you experiment with the number of columns/font size/gutter width, you could probably find a combinatio...

Re: Tables.. Arrgggg

I have pages that have a table on them. Each table is 2 rows, 2 columns. The top row has the cells merged.. and second row uses both columns. Essentially I am created a ruled sheet with a margin. Anybody familiar with the cornell note-taking method will understand. Would Columns [Sections] be a sol...

A better solution is to use the RTF (Rich Text Format) export which also could be opened by Microsoft Word File › Export › RTF… . By doing this (and by requesting RTF documents from your colleagues) data transition should work farely well. Some PC users get confused when they see the rtf extension,...

Nitpicks about this forum

I hesitate to raise this issue -- there are so many more important (and more interesting) topics -- but I think it's time to clean up the forum itself. 1. The "Mark All Topics Read" command never seems to work. 2. The highlighting of new/unread topics appears to be inconsistent [I haven't ...

Re: Problem with Hebrew and Superscript

Is there any (easy) way to add a superscript to Aleph for textual citations? Variations of this issue have been raised several times. The problem stems from the conventions that govern adding left-to-right text [including numbers] to right-to-left streams. The easiest solution I know is to insert a...

when I click in the header or footer, I do not have the option of choosing anything. All the options are greyed out and 'dead.' That's the problem -- it can be a little confusing at first -- in Mellel you can only make changes to the control parameters of a footer/header from outside the footer/hea...

Perhaps I'm not understanding what you're asking for. While the article was written with a web developers slant, everything about the usage of such characters (including the multitude of spaces) still applies for ordinary word processing. Yes, but the article makes a big point that text editors/wor...

For further reading on the differences between the en and em dash (and other such characters), I suggest reading: “ The Trouble With EM ’n EN (and Other Shady Characters) ”. Fascinating. Now, what I really need is a reference that explains all this not with regard to HML 4.0, but with regard to Uni...
