I'm using a Pismo PowerBook and I can find whatever I'm looking for in both the old and the new Mellel format with the help of the new SpotlightPlugin . At first the new plugin did not install itself properly, but with the help of the Redlers we found out that the culprit was the old plugin that was...

Hm, I what I do in this case is that I copy the table from Excel and paste it into Nisus Writer Express. Then I open the Nisus file (rtf) from within Mellel and after that I can copy and paste the table to whatever Mellel document I want. A bit awkward, but it works. :-)

You mean that instead of "Eq. (1) E=MC^2", you want to have it like this: "E=MC^2 Eq. (1)" ?
