Thanks for this idea. Word Service looks like it could come in handy from time to time.

Have you used this enough/long enough to know whether it plays well enough with Mellel not to cause interference?

File > Open Recent.

Often I use File > Open Recent. It is a great convenience...unless I’m after a file that is not among the 10 most recent. And nearly every day I am after such a file. Would it not be simple to make this list either longer or adjustable? My iBook screen could easily display a list of at least 30 name...

The only difference apparent with show invisibles (in TextWrangler or Mellel) is that between 'real' paragraphs there are 2 paragraph breaks, while there is only 1 at the end of lines. Remove Line Breaks in TW takes out only those paragraph breaks that end a line--not those that distinguish genuine ...

Thanks, nicka. Textwrangler does this quite simply. Do you have any idea how? It removes paragraph returns that are mere line ends, yet preserves those that demarcate real paragraphs. (Nisus would do the same. Perhaps still does?) I mean, removing all paragraph returns--even in selected text--remove...

Removing Paragraph Breaks--Email

Sometimes I copy&paste text from an email into a Mellel document, and when I do the resulting text is littered with Paragraph Breaks. Back in the old days when I used Nisus, there was a nifty macro to clean these up. Has anyone got a Find expression that will do the same? Trick of course is to r...

Re: Bibliography feature questions

The simplest solution, to my mind, would be to have a manual override. I do not want Bookends or Mellel to change any of my citations. They should appear as they are input. While I understand the benefit of having them expanded by Mellel, etc., this should not be the only option. I've had a similar...

Character Style: Secondary Font

I'm probably being dense, but some of the character styles that come standard with Mellel (header/footer, e.g.) don't allow a secondary font, or so it seems. Of course this is of little import, since I can replace these styles with new ones which then will have a secondary font, since none of the ch...

Mart°n--
Thanks for your quick reply.
Yes, normally of course I export to rtf and all is well, but sometimes...what can I say?

As a kind of follow-up:
Is Mellel alone in its use of XML, or are there any other word-processing apps that can read it? (If you know :) )

Cheers

openng mellel files without mellel

It happens that I'm in a remote spot with some Mellel files on my flash drive, access to a Mac, but...uh, no Mellel. There is Nisus Express. Is there any way to open these files?
Thanks

Yes, I can do this ad hoc each time, but there's no way I can see to set up the rtf conversion process to avoid this step. As I said, it's not a significant problem. I'm just wondering if there's a way to control this, especially since *some* aspects of the imported document clearly come from my def...

Thanks, Reiner, but this isn't it. Even when I make a document in Mellel with footnotes with continuous numbering, and export that document to rtf, then import, the result is a document with footnote numbering that restarts with every page. This newly imported document has a Note Style called "...

Importing rtf

I've looked but didn't find anything, either in Forum archives or in Mellel Help/Guide...hope I didn't miss. If so, please forgive. When importing an rtf file, Mellel produces a document with what appear to be certain default settings. Some of these settings clearly come my default template (backgro...

Yes, Reiner is right.

As a former Nisus user, I miss this feature.

(I see that the Nisus public beta has non-contiguous selection and a "Find All" button.)

I'm sure it's coming to Mellel and I'm looking forward to it. :)
