You have to drop it into HD/Library/Application Support/Backup/Quickpicks/. Then, you open Backup and this Mellel Quickpick will appear among available Quickpicks.

I'm very glad to find again the name of the "charitable soul" I mentioned before. Many, many thanks, Stephen! Your quickpick has been very handy for me over the years, and this update ensures that it will remain so. I do appreciate it, as I'm sure many others will.

Mellel xml Backup quickpick?

A long time ago, a charitable soul provided the rest of us with a very useful quickpick instructing the Backup app to automatically backup Mellel files. Recently I found that the quickpick in question, true to the time when it was conceived, saves only the old format of Mellel files. Hence, my quest...

Ah, now I see. Thanks for the superlatively illustrated example! Unfortunately, though, I realize we are talking about different things. You are teaching me how to right-align numbers in lists. (This is also what Martºn did regarding Mellel, so this trick is possible in Mellel, too.) But my problem ...

Peter,
Are you sure regarding NWP? I have downloaded it and tried it, but see no way to do the trick. How do you do it? Thanks.

Martºn, many thanks for your thorough explanation. (And I am amazed how you can build such nifty screen images!) Unfortunately, though, my problem regards endnotes. My publisher demands that single-digit note numbers be right-aligned with double-digit note numbers. And, well, I wouldn't want to turn...

Re: Problems with import from Word to Mellel.

I would save the Word document in rtf format, and then import it into Mellel (File/Import/rtf). This should preserve your bullets intact. (Alternatively, bullets may be inserted in Mellel via Insert/Special Characters/Other.)

Note-numbers alignment

Would anyone know how to achieve this result—is it possible in Mellel?

When listing notes, align the note numbers with the zero (0) in ten (10). For example, in the list below, 8. and 9. should be one position to the right:
8.
9.
10.
11.

Thanks for any clue!

What is still keeping me off pages is lack of support for citations, plus lack of an outliner. On both counts, Mellel shines. If only Mellel would have proper endnotes—meaning, endnotes that would stay at their proper assigned place, and not at the very end of the document—Mellel would have most of ...

A rant, beware

The option to link notes restart to a certain autotitle level could be interesting. But, as Reiner pointed out, introducing end-of-section notes and forcing the end-of-page option to do what it says would likely solve the problem. Frankly, it irks me a bit that a program as complex (and nice) as Mel...

Presently, one wonderful way of getting rid of all your footnotes is to export the document in rtf format and then open it in Pages (iWork '08 version). I would love to know why this is so. If you open and save your Mellel export in Word or NeoOffice, and *then* open it in Pages, all footnotes are s...

Bookends + Mellel: Overriding styles

In Preferences -> Bibliography, it is possible to convert the text formatting of references dumped by Bookends into Mellel styles regarding ONE paragraph style. I have set this up for the bibliography style, and its works: whenever I have to reapply the bibliography style (or change it), all the for...

It seems to me that some of the complaints have been from people so used to using Word that they have forgotten how idiosyncratic Word is. Mellel uses a very different basic premise than does Word: it is based on styles. I have not found Mellel's style in any way difficult. They seem so simple and ...
