In pure theory, reinstalling Mellel should do the trick, too. Try removing Mellel, rebooting and the installing Mellel back. I did not try that, but I certainly would if the only remaining option was to delete some unknown files under the superuser privileges :)

Aha. Well, the Mellel documents _are_ in fact folders, but both Mellel and Finder should act as the folder is a single file. If you see the document as a folder in Mellel, there is something wrong (but shoot me if I know what). Maybe try to drag the folder from Finder to the Mellel icon on the dock?...

I think the “ad-hoc formatting versus styles” issues (for instance the F-keys versus Cmd-I and Cmd-B) are bound to be a problem [not only] for the beginners. I would love if some text processor would give up the ad-hoc formatting altogether, because this would significantly clean the way of thinking...

Re: Recover from XML??

but Mellel will not open either the folder or the XML file. Is there a way to get back to the actual file? Do you mean the “The document failed to open, because the following error: No erorr” thing you get when you decompress the main.xml.gz file and then compress it again? If yes, then all you hav...

Automator seems to be a bit fishy, but I managed. 1) Go to http://mellel.davi.cz/ and download the Outliner.zip package. 2) Unzip, you’ll get the Automator workflow and the XSL template. 3) Put the template into your home directory. 4) Open the template with a text editor and set the names of the st...

Heh, sorry :) I did not know how much verbose I should be. You have to download the script, save it somewhere on your path, make it executable and you are ready to go. 1) Downloading should be no trouble at all. 2) Putting it on your path. This is a bit tricky. If you just want to play with it, simp...

OK, here it goes: http://mellel.davi.cz/. I guess the XSL style is a good starting point for anybody who wants to write some other kind of outliner, for example an HTML outliner or an OPML export.

This should be an easy thing to do using XSL (exporting the outline to plaintext or HTML). Maybe somebody has already done this? Or I could give it a try, should be done in a few hours.

(Edit: Yes, so it took 40 minutes with plain text. I’ll wrap it up in a nice script and post an address.)

For instance, let's say you want to make an outline. This is interesting. I thought the Outline was a way to see the document structure _after_ you create it. I use the outline to check the overall document structure, to keep the title names consistent and sometimes to jump around in the document. ...

I’ve tried that (using System Preferences), but it seems to be buggy. Sometimes the keyboard shortcut names appear in the menu and work, sometimes they disappear and stop working, sometimes they are there but do not work. I’d like to hear if somebody got it working.

Re: Auto-title suggestions

The new edit in place feature is a nice improvement to auto-titles, but I think it can go even further. In my mind you don’t need the pop-up at all. As soon as you select to add an auto-title Mellel should just insert a highlighted “untitled” title and let you start editing the title right in place...

Find Mellel in the Applications folder, do a right-click (or a Ctrl-click) and select Show package contents. The localized resources are in the Contents/Resources/*.lproj folders, so that you can trash those you do not need. It might be a good idea to backup the application before you do this, just ...

With the recent awesome feature additions, the next big project Mellel should tackle is an interface design overhaul. I think the overall interface is very good, but there are numerous glitches: • Keyboard shortcuts. Setting shortcuts via System Preferences is not really a solution, because it is n...

Localizations? If you do not use them, I guess you can delete them from the Mellel/Resources application package.
