Bi-directional split is really cool. Pixen, a graphics program, has a really interesting implementation if the Redlers wanted some inspiration...

Feature Request: True multi-lingual spell check.

Forgive me if this is already here; I gave a cursory effort at searching first. My oldest feature request for Mellel is the ability to designate the language of text (probably at the level of character style) for the purposes of spellcheck . The Character Appearance palette has a language pulldown m...

Interesting. Thanks for working on this. I learned a fair amount poking through your script and xsl thingy, too.

FA1: fear not, this is an easy fix, methinks. In the doc that is mistreating you, try this. Go to Insert > Note > Edit Note Attributes... In the sheet that opens, each of your note styles has a keyboard shortcut or (I suspect in your case) a little "-" [dash]. Click on the dash, and pick a...

Understanding the font issues involved, this would be a good thing to be able to do in New and Improved Find and Replace. I think you can; actually, now that I think about it, you can't do it all that well. Hmm.

This could be usefully/awesomely conjoined with the extra outline abilities: the ability to rearrange, hoist, etc. at the level of the outline, moving text around structurally as it were.

Line Numbers: a low-priority feature request

Writing about literature, it sometimes happens that I want to set in my documents a quotation of verse. For longer or discontinuous quotations, it would be helpful to be able to set them with line numbers, so that I can refer back to "Line 7" without causing confusion. In English, we custo...

Note-stravaganza!

I think that's right, Ori. Allow me to rephrase eleuteruiz's request for clarity (and add a bit of my own, sneakily): On page five, say, a footnote begins: ______________ [12] Consectetuer arcu ipsum ornare pellentesque vehicula, in vehicula diam, ornare magna erat felis wisi a risus. Justo fermentu...

Ori said: A. Discussing this in a form of a chat of sorts via iChat or maybe another tool which is more in-depth friendly. (suggestions would be welcome). B. Discussing this in a forum format, but with some special accommodations (e.g., a sticky thread that stays on top for several days). That would...

IN RE text encoding versus font format.

Executive Summary: Unicode is opposed to Western (ISO Latin 1), Arabic (ISO-8859-6), etc. These are text encoding languages. In Safari, Edit > Text Encodings will display a list of these. OpenType is neither PostScript nor TrueType. These are Font formats, or page description languages. Unicode is a...

Ori -- Hear, hear! Mellel is perhaps the purest word processor I have ever seen. I set pages very simply in a tasteful typeface, and people in my department actually comment when I give them something I've made, say in seminar. That said: my writing process happens among a number of applications, in...

who would not? I find Oxygen (like many of its Java brethren) to crawl — not too shabby feature set, though. BBEdit (or its free little brother TextWrangler) from BareBones Software has been my constant text editing companion for some years now. It'll handle a big file without flipping out, somethi...
