Re: best method for sharing templates/style sets

I've discovered a mistake in my previous post. Mellel's templates, style sets etc. are kept in the user's Application Support folder, not the System's. So to copy such items from one machine to another, you need to look not in Library/Application Support/Mellel 5 but in ~/Library/Application Support...

Re: Resizing vs. cropping, what happened?

The Mac OS supports a wide variety of file formats for images. When an image imported into Mellel is in a format that allows for free resizing, Mellel will resize it. When it is in a format that doesn’t allow for this, a format that simply represents the image as a rectangular array of pixels, it ma...

Re: Changing the order of endnotes

It's the order of bibliography entries, not the order of endnotes, that you seem to want to control. The automated management of bibliography and in-text citations is a job for a reference manager like Bookends working in partnership with Mellel, and I don’t believe any of the standard ones give you...

Thanks for letting us know. I hope you're reporting the crashes you experience to both Apple and Mellel -- that's why we have betas in the first place.

Re: Ligature exceptions

Two standing limitations of Mellel make this degree of ligature control difficult to achieve. It makes only a limited number of OpenType features available on an all-or-nothing basis. And its Find and Replace command is blind to character styles, so you can’t automate the removal of unwanted ligatur...

Re: Feature request: dark mode

A quick elaboration on what's just been said: the first issue of Mellel's new monthly newsletter announces that dark mode is on the way in version 5.2 before the end of the year. The newsletter also contains some details about how dark mode will look and work when it arrives.

Re: Install updates offline

If you ask Mellel to update itself on a machine connected to the internet it downloads a file of changes, applies those changes to itself, and deletes the file before it restarts. So there’s no way to capture the update and apply it to a second copy of Mellel on a machine that doesn’t connect to the...

Re: Page style

Amontillado’s suggestion sounds right to me. If the orientation in Page Setup were set to Landscape instead of Portrait, and you are using a template like Blank A4 that expects to be opened in Portrait mode, you might get the kind of reversal you report. Another thing worth checking is whether you s...

Re: Writing tags html css Within the text

Mellel is a word processor -- it doesn't interpret tags in HTML or CSS. Mellel won't let you automate the centering of the last line or paragraph in each section. You can of course include centering in the definition of a paragraph style and manually apply that style to the last paragraph of each se...

Re: Paragraph character - in search

Mellel doesn’t think of paragraph breaks as characters forming part of the document’s text. Once you expand the Find panel to include both Find and Replace boxes, the boxes have popup Insert menus on their left hand edge. One entry in the dropdown menu for the Find field lets you include paragraph b...

In a word, no. Mellel doesn't have that kind of structure.

Re: Images, Tables and Figures with Subtitle or caption

True, and my apologies if I was misleading in my original post. The steps I rehearsed don't "group" an image with its caption in such a way that copying, pasting, or dragging either one brings along the other as a matter of course. What they do accomplish is make sure the two are kept toge...

Re: Images, Tables and Figures with Subtitle or caption

if your captions are to follow inline images on the next line and have to stay on the same page, you need to exploit the Keep options in the Paragraph style box. 1. Set up one paragraph style, say Image, for the paragraphs that will contain your images. 2. Open the paragraph style box and choose the...
