As long as they don't support external bibliography apps, Pages is not interesting for academic writing.

A note by: Keeping Mellel documents in a Subversion repository is currently a huge pain, because the .svn directory gets lost when you save the document. I’ve talked about this with Eyal and the conclusion was that there is nothing Mellel is going to do about this, so I guess we have to count on Su...

No, there is no need at all to point that out! And I must confess that I am impatiently waiting for news about Pages 3. Will it be a slightly updated and enriched version of Pages 2 (like Pages 2 was of Pages 1), or can we perhaps expect more? Don't hold your breath. I think the update to Pages 2 m...

I think I see screenshots of a grammar checker. Whether that is actually an improvement is opent to discussion.

From my personal experience I'd say go for Bookends. Although Sente has a better interface it is much less reliable.

Intense dislike of Endnote seems almost universal, and indeed Thompson through their monopoly have largely killed the reference manager market with medicrity. But Endnote X is not *so* bad is it? It always depend on what you compare it with. If you consider that it took something like 3 or 4 $100 u...

How to use Thompson Endnote with Mellel?
Not at all if possible.

As others have said, RTF import/export is possible, but Endnote is such a horrible, produced by such a horrible company that it's best to avoid it completely.

It's really very simple. Someone who promises something, which they fail to deliver, cannot be considered trustworthy, right? If a company does the same then the same rules apply, i.e. they have been proven to be untrustworthy, and so how can I be sure that they won't simply walk away from the prod...

I do agree that the new 2.2 has some great features incl. the integration with Bookends - however this is again one of those things that are absolutely essential in order to use Mellel for academic purposes. However, that in itself is not enough to sell it as an academic - and certainly not a schol...

Re: A general note

Currently, Mellel works in collaboration with Bookends and Sente. We'll try to address BibDesk with that too (this did not work well in the past, but perhaps this will change now). I (one of the BibDesk developers) am looking into this on our end. BibDesk's focus is on reference management (enterin...

Maybe this script is of interest (Word and Pages? and possibly Mellel?? integration of cite commands): http://bibdesk.sourceforge.net/scripts/ReadMe_MSWord-BibTex.rtf I haven't tried this particular script, but IME the problem will that it relies on latex2rtf which has limited capabilities. latex2r...

I brought the idea of Mellel integration up in the BibDesk mailing list, and at least one of the active developers showed interest. That doesn't mean that this will come immediately, but there definitely is interest. So if one of the Redlers is reading this, he might contact Adam Maxwell who is thin...

But if we were going for completeness and fairness, Endnote X would need to be added to this list as well. This may begin to add too much work for the Redlers and delay other worthy causes. I believe, however, that Endnote has a larger user base than any of the other products, so it seems odd it ha...

I know its not exclusively for LaTeX, I just said 'primarily'. At least, you get that impression from its sourceforge page. "Also, I believe that the BibTeX format is a bit more exhaustive than the defaults offered by Bookends or Sente. (Also, since Bookends imports BibTeX, it's a bit odd to s...

I'd very much like to see BibDesk/Mellel integration, but as it stands now there are big technical hurdles. BibDesk is passive, meaning you can't define styles in the way you can with Sente/Bookends. This is done with BibTeX which doesn't integrate with Mellel. It would a big addition to BibDesk to...
