Re: Language swiching/spell-checking

I really like working in Mellel, but it can't figure out if it has a feature I really like in NisusWP. In Nisus you can switch languages/spelling dictionaries/input keyboards with a a keyboard shortcut. Sam, language switching on the Mac is an OS X feature. I haven't used Nisus in years, but I seem...

Re: columns

I think the reason it's hard to find is that most developers aren't targeting technical writers. It's not just technical writers that need parallel columns. They would be a major help in side-by-side translation/commentary. Now we're falling into an academic requirement and that very much is Mellel...

Remove all tabs is something I'm very happy to have
but
I can't find the command. If I double click the tab window to get the Add Tab Stops window, I find only "Clear tabs of the type," not "Clear all tabs."

Re: Keyboard shortcuts for adding tonal lang diacritics

I've discovered that there are a number of keyboard shortcuts for various common European language characters and math symbols. Is there anyway I can view them all and reassign the shortcut, if I like? 1, Use the Keyboard Viewer to see all the key combinations currently defined for the font you are...

Just to confuse the issue:

I checked a similar problem with marks in Hebrew: combining NIKUD (diacritical marks) with TAAMIM (cantillation marks)
-- Melle does the job well with OpenType fonts and OK with others
-- TextEdit does the job badly with all fonts.

OK, I see what you mean.

How very strange that "simple" TextEdit handles the multiple marks so well and "sophisticated" Mellel does not.

Re: A long-due missing feature

Mellel canot correctly handle multiple diacritical marks (those included in the area Combining diacritical Marks), unless an Open Type font is used. Could you be more specific? I never have occasion to use diacritical marks, but I played around with them just now. From what I can see, Mellel enters...

Mellel follows the standard convention of placing Left-toRight text inside Right-to-Left streams. You'll run into a lot of instances where the standard doesn't do what you want. One solution is the direction-breaking space already recommended. I prefer another solution, using the Character Appearanc...

Re: Mellel vs. MS Word--major advantages of Mellel

My situation is very similar to yours. I, too, often mix Chinese and Western language in my academic writing. Thus far, I have not exchanged a large number of files with colleagues. When I need to, however, I export to .rtf, then open the file in Word and save it as a .doc file. Excuse me, but why ...

You're right: Keyboard Viewer for Hebrew-QWERTY is incorrect with SBL Hebrew. How strange. Hebrew-QWERTY is correct with Ezra SIL SR. I wonder if the error isn't also reflected in the keyboard combinations. With Ezra SIL SR, "sin" is alt-w and "shin" is shift-w. I suspect this is...

Ken, You can always use the Keyboard Viewer to find the right key combinations. [You have to select the Keyboard Viewer "on" in System Preferences/International/Input Menu. Then, you can access it from the "flag" on the menu bar.] You can even "type" in characters using...

Could this be a fonts issue?

What language(s) is the report in?

Have you tried importing the file into another app? NeoOffice? Pages? TextEdit?
