Avoiding Unintended Deletions

Twice in the same number of months, I have inadvertantly deleted most of a lengthy manuscript. I discovered this only when, while editing, I noticed that a figure number, which should have been, say, 5.3, was now 0.3. Upon looking at the outline, I found that all of the early chapters were gone. The...

Tables and Tutorial by Robin Taylor

Thanks much to Robin Taylor; I've been using tables for some time, but finally read the tutorials. They're very well done, and they helped.javascript:emoticon(':(') Some minor suggestions for Redlers: 1. The "add a row" command should arguably add a row above or below the row selected, rat...

<It would be good also if the various lines in the table could have different thicknesses. If I understand correctly what you want, this is already possible. Simply select the Whole Table icon, deselect all lines in the Table Palette square, except for the one whose thickness you want to define. Th...

Thanks Don. As so often happens, it now seems obvious and I feel dumb.

Tis a pity on the default formatting. I suspect the Redlers folks will change this in the future. It would be good also if the various lines in the table could have different thicknesses.

Defaults for Tables

How do I set the default style of a table? I am thinking here of reducing the width of the lilnes, and also of alignment, etc. I know that I can just apply a paragraph style to handle the latter, but surely I don't have to adjust the line thickness on each and every table.?? Ideally, the table style...

Cross Indexing

I agree with the sentiment that something is much better than nothing, and that something pretty good and simple is far, far better than nothing at all. I worry that this and other sophisticated featues will affect software quality. Anything that requires Microsoft-like macros is exceedingly dangero...

Indexing: Caution about Markings

Indexing seems to me a perfect example of a nice-to-have. I truly would like to have it; but I doubt that I would use it very often and I could surely live without it, as I have for a long time. I have only indexed one book. As to what the functionality should be if we had it, it seems to me very im...

Re: Summary After Usage for 3 Weeks

In my view, the problem is not the interface but the rather inflexibility of the way certain things work in Mellel. For example, when you enter a footnote and suddenly notice that the font is all wrong, the divider is too thick (or too thin) and that you'd rather have A, B, C and not 1, 2 3 -- ther...

Chunks

If designers lay out a good strawman, along with rationale, then it can be very efficient and productive to elicit comments and suggestions. One "session" might go a long way. Focus is good. My priority topic would be interface. A great deal could be done with reasonable effort to unify th...

Mellel and DevonThink

I am using DevonThink Pro and integration appears attractive. However, there are many things to be done and I can't reasonably assess relative prioriites without a better sense of tradeoffs.

Spotlight is working

couldn't it also be that the version you have installed already, is current? Yes, it probably was, but since Spotlight wasn't finding some of what I was looking for, I was hoping that the plug-in would be newer. Thus, I deleted the plug-in that was there and tried to reinstall, but was unable to do...

Problems Reinstalling Spotlight Installer

This is an FYI for others who may be trying to reinstall Mellel's Spotlight plug-in because of the earlier problems You may get a message from the installer "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install." After a web search I found that the problem causing this is often a receipt from ...

Lots of Errors in Transmitting the Equations

LaTeXiT does not work for large equations. Generally the equations from MathMagic look better than those from MathType and even from LaTex. For example, the integral sign and the position and size of limits seem better. On the other hand the bra-ket (quantum mechanics) looks slightly better in Math...
