Re: Problem with Snippets from aText or raycast

I'd certainly report this to support if you haven't done so already. My own snippet manager (Typinator) is still working smoothly in Mellel 5.0.9. One thing you might check for is whether you've recently added any other utilities that might be saving and using and restoring your Mac's clipboard in w...

Re: Live URL in text boxes

Right now the answer appears to be "no." If you make your live url in the main body of a Mellel document or a separate application such as TextEdit and copy it into a text box, the link goes dead.

Re: Paragraphs breaking

I haven't noticed any problems with this version myself, but it's possible. The behavior certainly sounds strange enough to warrant a support request. Sending along a copy of the misbehaving document may help Eyal work out what's going on.

Re: Paragraphs breaking

It may simply be a consequence of two built-in constraints. Mellel always starts a footnote on the same page as the footnote reference, and it does its best to put the whole text of a footnote on the page where the footnote begins. Sometimes the only way to meet these constraints results in pages wi...

Re: Exporting from Scrivener to Mellel

My own sense is that the more invested you become in LaTex - specific ways of handling textual matters above and beyond the building of simple mathematical formulas, the less sense it makes to try to finish your work in Mellel, Word, or any other word processor — they conceive these things so differ...

Re: Missing Lucida Grande font

Lucida Grande is still available in the Mac OS despite not being a system font anymore. It’s a version of Lucida Sans licensed specially to the Mac which has exceptionally good glyph coverage for lots of languages. It’s the broad language coverage that led Mellel’s developers to use it in many of Me...

Re: OpenType help

Sorry, I've been away a few days. I believe the workaround involving Typinator came from Icelander, not me. But your problem may be that a Typinator expansion inherits its character attributes from the preceding text if the little dropdown menu at the left hand end of the expansion field in Typinato...

Re: OpenType help

My own sense had been that if the name of an OT feature exactly matched one of those in Mellel's menu, all would be well within Mellel itself. Justification alternates work just fine, for instance. Nowadays some fonts have multiple distinct stylistic sets, and Mellel offers the same limited set of f...

Re: Export to .rtf and .docx

I can confirm that unlike most special formatting, OpenType features applied to characters in Mellel regularly do go missing in docx export. This happens whether they were applied directly to particular bits of text in the Mellel document or whether they were called for as part of a special characte...

Re: Change default settings for Image properties

As far as I can tell the answer is no. Dragged images start their lives as floating and wrapped-around; images brought in using the Insert Image menu option start their lives as inline. Once an image is in the document you can double-click it to get the Edit Image popover and change these properties...

Re: OpenType help

You can apply OpenType features (including Discretionary ligatures, Titling alternates, Stylistic alternates, etc) to selected text or to the next text you type by using the dropdown menu of OpenType Features in the bottom lefthand corner of the Character attributes palette. Such features remain che...

Re: Feature Request: long document variables wrap to next line

A document variable inserts its text on a single line with inelastic spacing between words, regardless of current paragraph attributes, spilling past the right hand text margin if necessary. This isn’t the behavior one would expect from a glossary facility or a text expansion utility that defined it...

Re: Looking for your input regarding Mellel's Factory templates

I’ve used and loved Mellel for many years now, but struggles with its default templates (A4 etc.) delayed and continues to hamper my use of autotitles, note streams, etc. The templates gave me bad habits and got me invested in the maintenance of style sets I’d organize very differently if I was star...

Re: MathType and Catalina

I think that's precisely right. I have Word myself but I'd given up on MathType a while back because they weren't getting anything going in Catalina and Big Sur, which I needed. My one caution is you might have baseline issues of your own copying from Word to Mellel. Good luck. As to my own situatio...
