Re: French typography : automatic no-break before ? ; : !
The substitution of ([a-zA-Z0-9])'([a-zA-Z0-9]) to \1’\2 should not be the only way that ' becomes ’. What about elisions? Such as ’Ello? or ’cause ? Or for numbers: Back in ’92 … If ([a-zA-Z0-9])'([a-zA-Z0-9]) to \1’\2 were to be used as the only basis, then all three of those examples would be ty...

Re: French typography : automatic no-break before ? ; : !
And when the typography features are overhauled please don't forget to add an apostrophe function like Leopard already had in a very smooth version and Snow Leopard in a not so smooth anymore version: A single ' can be an opening or closing single quotation mark—which could in German look like this:...

Re: Mellel and the "Text Substitution" in Snow Leopard
So does Typinator and extremely fast. I had feared that third-party expanders would collide with the new OS text functions but actually I don't use the OS substition at all (too limited) and typographic quotation marks work well with Typinator (in apps that use the OS text system, Mellel again has i...

Re: Mellel and the Snow Leopard
It is not the style sets that got corrupted it was the fonts the styles use! Whatever happened during the update to Snow Leopard , might Linotype's FontExplorer X be involved (like in my case) or not, sometimes some fonts were not activated anymore (or not properly, if it is possible to be in betwee...

Re: Mellel and the Snow Leopard
I just want to return once to my already fixed problem (see above) because it might be of some help to others: I now do know for sure that I had a font problem. I used Linotype's FontExplorer X as a font manager and I suspect it to be involved in the font issue. Somehow the font family I use for the...

Re: Mellel and the Snow Leopard
I too came to the solution that the crash must be font related. I de-installed both Mellel and the Mellel beta, first I kept the settings but as I expected that just gave me another crash. It seemed the default style is somehow corrupted so I had to get rid either of the default style setting or the...

Re: Mellel and the Snow Leopard
Now neither Mellel version does work anymore. They just crash right at the start.

Re: Mellel and the Snow Leopard
When I start Mellel —both 2.6.1 and the latest 2.7 beta—I notice that the font I use as a default is not displayed properly. When I change the font either in the palette or in the font format settings Mellel crashes immediately. When I just type and switch to italics or bold it crashes after a short...

Re: query about strange icons and folders
Were you a beta tester?
I was, and I can remember that at least one of the betas did not install properly but as a duplicate like you described.
Like rpcameron said, get rid of all of this (except your preferences, of course).

Re: Classical Greek and Latin References
This is how I would do it ("would" because it's totally theoretical, I don't need any of these citations at the moment; so cave!): – In Bookends' Formats Manager create under Formattting Options a new type, let's say "Unused 1" (it would be great if it could be renamed to somethi...

Re: help exporting SPIonic font to .rtf
Try to open the RTF file in another application, like TextEdit or OpenOffice/NeoOffice. That will at least tell you if is an exporting issue of Mellel or an importing issue of Word.

Re: block quotes
If you do a manual change to any style you will have to adjust these changes every time you change the style. If you are only writing a letter or any other short text it doesn't matter. But in the long run an extra style is definitely the right decision. My MO has been for a long time, since the day...

Re: Scan problem with Bookends
I've just checked a reference with an author that has an umlaut in his name and I did not face any problem. After entering citations as I type, enclosed in {braces}, I convert them to citations (using the "Convert text to citations" option in the edit menu); I then scan the document (eithe...

Re: Feature request: Special characters as part of the pallette
If the special characters you can reach via alt/opt are not enough for you might consider getting a text expansion app like TypeIt4Me , TextExpander oder Typinator . This does mean an extra app and extra costs, true, but then again they work in every app you can write in. You can use them for bigger...

Re: Option to display only page numbers in textual citations
The Bookends forum is definitely the right place to find an answer to your questions. But if Bookends —definitely not Mellel —puts a title in quotation marks this must be set somewhere in Bookends' MLA format for, like, books. (I just checked the MLA format in Bookends and it has an italicized title...
