If you are using Snow Leopard, you can set a shortcut using the operating system's Services feature (see Services, in the File Menu) to open the Open Recent menu item.

Italics often take a different amount of space than regular text. If this is a problem for you in your footnotes, simply change the line spacing in your Alignment & Spacing palette from Lines to Points, for your footnote(s); the setting with points forces line spacing to remain constant in a par...
