Re: Intermin solutions for working with .mellel docs in ProWritingAid

Thanks for that, DanZac. I'm also no expert on the technical side of this question. I do know that if a grammar checker like PWA could plug in directly to Mellel, that would be extremely convenient. I take your point regarding the potential complications that could be introduced by opening and worki...

Re: Intermin solutions for working with .mellel docs in ProWritingAid

Thanks for the input DanZac - I'm very much in agreement with you about the wisdom of keeping work in .mellel format for as long as possible. Ideally, the only version that I will share with anyone will be a .pdf generated in Mellel. I guess it is possible, as you suggest, that the folks at ProWriti...

Re: Intermin solutions for working with .mellel docs in ProWritingAid

The stories about people caught out for plagiarism decades after submitting their doctoral dissertation make a strong argument for paying for a checking service like this in case of any mistakes (such as notes that get accidentally incorporated into the text). By my calculations, buying 100 credits ...

Re: Intermin solutions for working with .mellel docs in ProWritingAid

Thank you Icelander for taking an interest in this question! To address your first posting first: yes, this is a paid service, but the amount involved is small relative to what it costs to hire an editor. I'm not certain about the limitations of the free service, but it may well be that you are limi...

Intermin solutions for working with .mellel docs in ProWritingAid

As some members of this forum are aware, ProWritingAid is an excellent style and grammar checking service, which offers a number of different ways to check and edit a text. For users of Microsoft Word for Windows, there is a plugin that allows for direct checking and editing of the document. For Mac...

Re: small request to streamline live bibliography

Have you tried the key combination Command + CTRL + Y in Bookends? That opens up a window where you can enter the page number and tweak several other details.

Re: ProWritingAid support for Mellel

Thanks DanZac. I haven't seen any signs of progress on this since I got in touch with the team at ProWritingAid about this idea in August 2017. Understandably, it looks like their efforts are focused on where the largest user-base is (i.e. Word and Scrivener). It's good to let them know that we Mell...

Re: Working on the iPad vs. the Mac

Thanks, ealvarez, for these comments. I wandered into my local Apple Store over the weekend and had a look at the iPad Pro with keyboard built into the case. I could imagine getting some serious work done in split screen mode on one of those.

Working on the iPad vs. the Mac

I do almost all of my writing on a MacBook Air using Mellel and Bookends in combination with research tools such as DevonThink. The MacBook Air is light and compact enough to be reasonably convenient bringing it to libraries and elsewhere. The battery life is also good enough to be able to get throu...

Re: No page number on first page of each chapter

Hi Icelander - thank you! You clearly went to lot of trouble to help me out, and I appreciate it. The two steps I needed to take to replicate what you had done were: - In title flows, insert page style break before each chapter - with pages 2 - end selected, de-select the "Start At" button...

Re: No page number on first page of each chapter

Actually, I have two page styles in my document: one is for the front matter with pagination in Roman numerals, the second is for the body of the text, with pagination in Arabic numerals.

Re: No page number on first page of each chapter

Thanks for this pointer, Icelander! 1. Open your Page style from the Page palette and tick the "Different first page" box in the lower left corner. Then 2. Insert "Page style break" from Insert -> Breaks after each chapter. I think I must be missing something here. When I open th...

No page number on first page of each chapter

Is there any easy way to tell Mellel not to show a page number on the first page of each chapter?

Re: auto text

For what it's worth, I'm using Typinator with Mellel and am happy with the way they work together. I am just using Typinator as an auto-correct tool, but I believe that it's capable of much more. I haven't used the glossaries feature of Nisus, but perhaps this can be replicated in Typinator? To answ...

Re: Citation with author named within the paper

If it's a once-off case, the easiest thing is to enter the "Create Temporary Citations with Modifiers" dialogue window (by pressing Command + CTRL + Y in Bookends), select "No enclosing punctuation" and enter "Lukina et. al " in the "Precede citation with the text:...
