Re: files created in Oct 2005 won't open
Hi: The icon beside them is a greyed-out screen with the letters "exec" in green in the upper left corner. Maybe the .mell extension got lost or have never been attached to the files so Mellel doesn’t recognize those files as Mellel files and therefore refuses to open them correctly. To r...

Re: Problem with PDF files made using Mellel
I have seen the same problem in the past but didn’t know that it was related to Mellel (I’m still not sure, if the problem is limited to PDFs created with Mellel). I could reproduce it on my Machine: Mellel 2.5 (b29) Mac OS 10.4.11 PowerBook G4 Preview 3.0.9 (409) Font: Myriad Pro (OpenType) The sam...

Re: AAT Support
To clarify, I'm talking about the things you can see in Character Palette under the 'Glyph' view, but which Character Palette will not insert into Mellel (they work fine in TextEdit, though). My previous understanding was that they do work in Mellel under Leopard (I am still using Tiger). I can't s...

Re: File locked
Are you able to save the file with a different name (File > Save as…)? If so, you could trash the locked file and rename the new one to the old name. I don’t know what happened when Mellel crashed, but this may be a workaround.

Re: auto titles and styles help
Sorry, I should have read your initial post more detailed. You can edit the style that is used after the current style in several ways of which I will show you one: The whole “problem” is hidden in a series of settings: A: You insert a auto-title which will (probably) have a Character Style (let’s s...

Re: auto titles and styles help
The method to apply a style to Auto-Titles has changed with Mellel 2.5 and is described in the manual (Help > Mellel Guide) on page 200. To apply a character style to your chosen Auto-Title elements, open the “Edit Title flow” window (by clicking the small pen icon in the Auto-Title palette), select...

Re: Re Moving to Mellel from MS Word TOC question
Hi All, The situation is that I have a document with 4 levels of Auto Title Headings which I might call H1, H2, H3, and H4. For the table of contents page I want to show headings H2 H3 and H4 . To do this, you could exclude the H1 headings in the “Edit title flow” sheet. Here you can select the H1 ...
Re: Endnotes
Mellel integrates best with Bookends or Sente, in case you like to use Endnote anyway, you could read the following threads:
How to use Thompson Endnote with Mellel?
Drag-n-drop from EndNote X?
Hope this helps.

Re: Is there a Hebrew Spell Checker?
The Hebrew Spell Checker looks at each word individually and not at the word in the context of the sentence. Every spell checker looks at a word independently, that’s why they’re called spell-checker. They look at a word and highlight it in some way, if it wasn’t spelled correctly. So that in a Wor...

Re: Is there a Hebrew Spell Checker?
Mellel doesn’t have a built in spell checker but uses the one contained in Mac OS X. As OS X (at least 10.4.x) does’t contain a Hebrew dictionary, you couldn’t choose one from the spell checker options. You could download (for free) and try cocoAspell http://people.ict.usc.edu/~leuski/cocoaspell/ al...

Re: Serious spam problem
I think it would be most helpful to the forum in general, if real users aren’t bothered too much but the admins or the sheriff take care of the forum. Apart from a different captcha mechanism, the forum moderator or sheriff could check or approve the very first post of a new user. This would take a ...

Re: Serious spam problem
I thought of the same thing (to have some forum Sheriffs which have privileges to delete the spam-bot user accounts, but as they can get in that easy, the login procedure also should be changed.

Re: Serious spam problem
I too find the current forum near to useless. I’ve reported a lot of those spam postings but nothing happened. I won’t take the time to digg to all this spam but will leave this forum if the problem won’t be solved. Maybe a different captcha or a “manual“ user account activation will help to keep th...
