I very often import texts, mostly from Word of course, into Mellel. Since I run a Microsoft-free machine, I always have to pass through Nisus or whatever to get rtf in order to get the footnotes. Then, when I import the resulting rtf I always get a text with line numbers, which I have to turn off. N...

Re: slow working and always turning ball
Well 165MB is a big file, but Mellel should be able to handle it. What slows you down is clearly the automatic save and/or back up, and you might consider turning them off, or at least set the frequency somewhat longer. Preferences > Open and Save gives you various possibilities. If you turn the aut...

Re: slow working and always turning ball
How big is your file in MB? What happens is clearly that Mellel puts up the wheel every time it autosaves, but it does seem very slow in doing so. Do you have many other program open at the same time? Is you machine generally slow? Long files are usually a speciality of Mellel, but if you have too l...

Re: Text wrapping to size of window
You are in fact asking for a total change of lay-out just by changing the aspect of the view. As you remark yourself, the programs that will do this will only do it in 'web view', a mode that Mellel does not have - nor would I personally know what to use it for, but then, I do not use tablets or pho...

Thank you Eval, it works, but I would never have got there on my own.

Re: find & replace
Hm, searching [digit].[digit] gives 'nothing found'. I have tried several combinations with or without brackets, but nothing gives the desired result.

find & replace
In a series of measurements I want to correct points into commas, i.e. 12.5 should be 12,5. I can easily find them by searching 'digit'.'digit', but then I have a problem: if I replace by 'found expression','found expression' 12.5 will be replaced by 12.5,12.5. Does anyone know how this could be don...

Re: Text box in 3.5
1. When I click the pencil nothing happens at all, and there is no chance of doing any editing. I can't even do anythng with the corners - nothing moves. 2.Yes, I went to look, for I had not tried. Images now have the same ikons underneath as the text-box and the result is the same. 3. Yes plenty 9/...

Text box in 3.5
Thank you for the text-boxes which could be useful sometimes. Under El Capitan it works fine. With 10.7.5 it does not really function, since any attempt to edit margins, frame etc with the pencil ikon results in blocking the lot, so one has to bale out.

Re: Inserting a pdf document
Inserting a pdf does not seem to be on the list of possibilities, as you have also seen, but you can always transform the pdf to jpg and insert it. But of course it will be as an image, not as text. Would that solve your problem?

Re: Some humble suggestions
It is true that the palette window can be in the way, so make it disappear when you don't need it.
I have no opinion on bullets, but oh yes, please, could we have the possibility to search for styles. I think I have already asked for it a long time ago.

Re: Cmd space not working even after disabling in spotlight
I don't think this problem concerns Mellel, but rather the system preferences. System preferences > Keyboard > input source > shortcuts and tick the box 'Select previous input source'. Then the shortcut should work. Since I write in several modern languages, all using the Latin alphabet, I have disc...

Re: page numbers of a text
Janet's solution works, but then it does not, because pages are still numbered from the beginning, so you can have 5 un-numbered pages at the beginning, but if you want Roman numbers on the following pages they will start with VI, not I, and when you switch to normal numbers later, they will just pi...

Re: Back in Mellel: Questions on endnotes and on exporting s
I don't think the Mellel community has lost interest in the issues you mention, I suppose we have just given up on getting an appropriate reaction. I agree with everything you say, not least the loss of styles and the unsatisfactory communication with Word. When I receive a manuscript in .docx I hav...

Re: critical edition
Let me try to understand: you have written an edition, presumably of a longish text, and put the critical notes as footnotes. Now you want to reduce this to a traditional page on paper, like e.g. an Oxford Classical Text, with no references in the text and the app. crit. at the bottom of every page ...
