I completed my dissertation in Mellel, and it worked without any major problems. My dissertation was in English (with some quotations in Spanish) and just used Times 12 throughout. That is, I can't attest for Mellel's opentype and multilanguage functionality, which is one of the major sales point. B...

While Bookends or other solutions would allow Raymond to define custom bibliographic types, I think he wants primary sources to be treated differently from standard bibliographic sources (beyond formatting). Unfortunately the answer is no. There's only one bibliography section, and you can only have...

Thanks for the thought, Don. While it's a perfectly logical solution, this didn't solve it.

The paragraph style is reset after re-saving the autotitle flows; but the character style info is not automatically updated if the character style is not the autotitle default.

How to reset formatting of autotitles

I don't know what I did, but some of my autotitles acquired a different formatting. It seems that this happened after I merged fragments from several documents into my whole manuscript file. The result is that autotitles of the same level have different character styles/variations. I was wondering i...

I agree with your suggestion. I think it's consistent with the "metaphor." The combo box shows the state of a string of characters. Changing the marker that is highlighted should change the state. (In contrast auto-title is no state; double clicking is the right action there, imho).

I wholeheartedly agree that the GUI, particularly the toolbar and status bar, is due a major revamp. However, I don't agree with the specifics of your proposal. I instead would like to propose: 1) Cocoa toolbar (i.e. fully customizable and controllable through the top-right window control). 2) I lik...

Make Outline panel a Navigation panel?

One possible solution to the issue of representing citations and navigating through them is to convert the outline panel into a sort of Navigation Panel. It could be toggled between different navigation forms: 1) outline, 2) quick search à-la-Preview, 3) citations along the lines indicated in these ...

I agree with your proposals. The way I thought about having access to footnotes is generalizing the approach to edit autotitles: select and enter. The same can be applied to editing tables. In fact the use of tab in tables to move from one cell to another can be also applied to move between footnote...

Thanks Stephen for the illuminating posts. Know I wonder... if Mellel added a <CR> after each ". " (period-space) and kept the xml file "tidy," would SVN be able to be as granular as to the sentence level? I know that SVN and track changes is different, but I would be very happy ...

I don't need wrap around text, never have, probably never will. But for me, citation can't be improved too much. I agree with this, absolutely. In my area (history, US academia), text formatting and image and table positioning are practically irrelevant in journal and manuscript submissions. And so...

In-line editing, that'd be my vote if it were an option. And what about making the autotitle behave like email addresses in Mail.app? You hover on it, the title transform into the blue rounded thing with the little right arrow on the right. If you press the arrow you can choose to edit the autotitle...

Developers haven't said anything about live formatting, I don't think it's in the roadmap. I enthusiastically second this proposal. If there were live formatting I'll be using the feature intensively. As it works now, I'd rather work on inserting my citations manually.
