Suggestions for cross-references

These are some minor issues I find using cross-references and some proposals to solve them. Please let me know if you think the problems I point to are solved in some way. 1) When using Insert Reference, it is difficult to locate tables. All autotitles are collapsed into one big list. I'd like to ha...

Re: Figure and table captions

This feature would be very useful to me. Also, it's important to take into account that there are captions associated with tables and figures (i.e. that need to be in the same page) that are elements in an outline hierarchy as autotitles are. Doing all captions as autotitles complicates things to me...

Re: Mellel vs. Pages...who wins?

I actually love Pages. I use it for letters, quizzes, and anything that involves back-and-forth collaboration with word users. I typically use Pages to comment scholarly work. I was surprised that Pages did such a good job with a 380-page dissertation that I just read and commented. I don't use Page...

Re: Wishlist for version 2.6

Here's my ranking in the three groups: 19: export/import RTF styles 4/40: undo/versioning 41(my addition): GUI revision, I think current GUI needs major change (menu structure, palettes, make look more similar to rest of OS, improved full screen) --- 14: table styles 27: quicklook -- 21: clickable P...

Re: Feature request: Text alignment option: center justified

While I have no use for this request, I think it is arbitrary to have left justification for the last line. I think it'd be possible to implement this feature (as well as right and full justification for the last line) as a special option for a justified paragraph. What I would not like to have, tho...

Re: Images are blurry.... what to do?

too bad graphs and tables are not possible in mellel Tables like the one you show in the screenshot are certainly doable in Mellel. You copy them from Excel and then do "Edit/Convert Text to Table". You need to figure out how some programs copy tables using tabs as separators; then you re...

Re: Goodbye Microsoft 2008; bring it on Mellel!

I got another 2 months before I start my dissertation and I hope textflow arround images and cross references are sorted out by then. dstay: Do your university's dissertation guidelines mandate text wrapping around images? If not, why bother? Even if Mellel had the functionality (and it should), I'...

Re: Cross Reference

I wonder if it would be possible to make x-refs to list elements. Say I have a list Autotitle A 1. hello 2. bye Would it be possible to make a reference to, say, element 2 of the list (See Item 2 of Autotitle A) and that the updates the item numbering as one edits the list? I know this is a complica...

I believe Mellel needs some thorough thinking in the GUI front. I'd particularly like to see a better full screen and compact view modes, streamlining and balancing of menus, elimination of modal windows for autotitles, shortcut customization, use of a simple, in-window search feature (in addition t...

As a new user you may not be aware of the marker functionality. You not only can highlight text fragments with different marker "streams" (Mellel is all about streams...) but you can also easily navigate through the markers. Markers make it really easy to deal with simple cross-referencing...

I second the "genuine" PDF request, although I'm almost sure that OSX actually does not provide the APIs to add bookmarks. (That was the reply I got when I asked to add bookmarks to Skim.app). Still, I believe this would be an addition worth the effort (or maybe Leopard extended PDFKit?) I...

I agree too, I'd rather do all file manipulation/project management in the Finder. I see this primarily as Apple's fault, but it'd be good if the Redlers could extend the Save dialog to include metadata abilities. As an off-topic, I'm not that thrilled with all the buzz around Scrivener. I think it'...

Off thread, but on the topic of bibliographic references, I was surprised to find that Mellel replicates all fields of bibliographic references in the .Mellel package (as endnote XML files). That includes fields containing notes, which are useless for citation purposes. I made a note to myself that ...

I mentioned this issue to the redlers, since it is more intuitive to me to structure long texts using outline elements. Ori or Eyal had a conceptually sound reply, I don't remember exactly what it was, that convinced me that their approach was reasonable. Still, while it is good to have section brea...
