Helpful Hints for Collaboration via Word?

Has anyone put together a list of helpful do's and don'ts for collaboration with Word as the mechanism? Exporting Mellel to Word via RTF works pretty well, but I am aware of at least a few apparent problems. Word's line-in-line-out doesn't import, of course, so I am assuming I will use those pretty ...

Nicka I just tried (moving the last subsection) and, no, the appendices didn't get tugged along. I believe that it is because I have an unnumbered main heading with the title "Appendices" as a page before the individual appendices. Thus, Mellel knows that what follows is not subordinate to...

Title Flows in a COmplex Document

Personally, I've got my autotitles set up as follows. The numbers indicate the built-in Mellel levels of title flows list. This allows me to have (1) unnumbered main sections for preface, summary, acknowledgements, etc; (2) numbered chapters; (3) appendices "numbered" with roman numerals; ...

Exporting Endnotes and Footnotes via RTF to Word

I have a Mellel document with footnotes referenced by a, b, ..., and with endnotes referenced by 1, 2, .... If I export to RTF and open in Word, the formatting isn't right: o The footnotes in Word are numbered by i, ii, ... o The format of the endnotes looks like 3. Text of the footnote instead of w...

Editing citations

I was among those who asked for and welcomed unscan. The reasons included: (1) I want to be sure that if I see "Jones (1998b)" in a paragraph, it was generated by the program and the proper bibliographic item inserted. That phrase might just have been typed in directly, by me or my secreta...

Exporting colored table cells

It appearst that if I color table cells in Mellel, the colors don't export to Word, even via rtf. Is this correct and is there a workaround?

You're right. That works too. It seems to me that Mellel needs to fix something so that the rippling through always occurs. I doubt that there is a significant situation in which one wants the note stream and note sytle to be out of synch.

Endnotes

[I thought I had posted this earlier, but don't see it, so I'm reposting] Thanks Martin. What turned out to have caught me was a particular sequence of operations. At some point, I probably changed endnote style in Insert/Notes/Edit note attributes. One consequence, although I didn't know it, was fo...

I believe there is a bug. I have been unable to edit an endnnote stream from the Edit Style Sheet dialog. Actually, I have edited, it's just that it had no effect. Also, if I added a type of note there, it didn't show up in Insert Note menu. In contrast, if I used the Insert/Note/Edit Note Stream di...

Re: Update endnote reference?

Unfortunately, I've checked and double-checked the items you mention. Yes, I have endnotes and footnotes, but I'm talking about endnotes. Yes, I've changed the Reference Symbol format to None. Very peculiar.

Update endnote reference?

I have included numerous endnotes in a manuscript. When I looked at a printed version, I saw that the in-text reference marks all have periods after the number. I have changed the style for endnote reference, but it has no effect, either on existing endnote referencces, nor on how a new one looks. I...

Deleting rows: minor bug/feature? Plus workaround

If one has created a table and then merged all cells in one of its rows, that degenerate row cannot always be deleted: the delete-cells tool is gray. The workaround is to split the row (vertically or horizontally), after which deletion works again. Hardly a big problem, but a curiosity that might go...

I suspect that Eyal's explanation is the correct one and I surely agree with the suggestion that something (warning or whatever) should be done to prevent this from happening. Thanks.

Temporary Citation Object

The new bibliograpic features are very nice. I have been using the Scan/Unscan feature quite a bit. However, the temporary citation object now appears to be different: larger than previously. If I print, the temporary citations appear along with the main text and can be rather confusing and divertin...
