Re: Space before and after paragraphs

Thanks for the response. I am not sure things are so simple. I wish, of course… :) To take an example: 1. Create a "heading" style with underlined Times New Roman, 11pt size, and single line spacing. 2. Create a "body text" style with Times New Roman, 11pt size, and double line s...

Feature request for paragraph style

Regarding paragraph styles, I would like to propose additional indentation and line spacing attributes for: 1. The first line of a paragraph if it follows a paragraph in a different style, and 2. The last line of a paragraph if it is followed by a paragraph in a different style. This would spare the...

Space before and after paragraphs

Hello, I have a couple of questions, to which I suspect the answer is negative (is it?), so I will present them as feature requests. 1. In defining a paragraph style, I would like to determine its space before/after the next/previous paragraph in terms of number of lines (1, 1.5, 2. etc.), in additi...

Re: Feat Request: Page (Style) Break option in Paragraph Style

I concur in the OP's request that page breaks be allowed within paragraph styles. Anything that allows a greater degree of abstraction and synthesis in style design is very welcome.

Re: Header collapses when edited

I have more or less the same issue with footers! As soon as I edit even a single character in the footer (e.g. delete one of the hyphens surrounding the page number), the footer collapses. Of course, in the case of the footer it collapses downwards but this is the only difference. Is this really a b...

Re: Line breaks and paragraph justification

I was very glad to find this thread. In my view, this is a much-needed feature, and one that would set Mellel apart form its competitors, much as it may seem as a detail at first glance. The most elegant solution would be to include extra attributes, in each paragraph style, for the beginning of the...

Re: Auto-Correct Spelling Mistakes

You are certainly not the only one wanting this feature. With the spelling, substitution and auto-correction facilities available built in Snow Leopard, I hope the Reddlers will soon include such functionality in Mellel. It is indeed a crucial feature for academic writing which tends to be, well, wo...

"Rendering document"… and then a kernel protection error!

Running Mellel 2.7.1 Build 3 here on a Snow Leopard 10.6.1 macbook, 4GB of RAM. I was working on a 2-page document with text, two small tables and one image (a screenshot). Shortly upon inserting the image into the file, a message window popped up ("rendering document" or something similar...

Re: Newbie question: Style changes not reflected in the document

Thank you for writing back.

I use Mellel 2.7.1, Build 3. I had never used Mellel or worked with Mellel documents before, so this is certainly not a "legacy" problem.

Yes, I did clean all support, cache and preference files that are associated with Mellel.

Strange, isn't it?!

Editing the footer text shrinks the footer width

Hello collective wisdom, I am trying to set up the footer in my style set. According to specifications, the page number must appear exactly 0.75 inches above the edge of the page and must not be enclosed in hyphens. Now, if I begin to delete the hyphens surrounding the page number by default, the fo...

Bug confirmed!

OK, I am sorry for the back and forth. Actually, I am now pretty sure that there is some sort of bug involved. Every time I use Mellel, after some time the program becomes unable to reflect my style changes onto the document. The problem can occur with different styles and attributes. For example, t...

Re: Newbie question: Style changes not reflected in the document

Well, it seems my style set database was corrupt. I duplicated the recalcitrant set style and the resulting copy behaved well… Then I tried to delete the original but it kept reappearing in my sets database. I wish I could reproduce this because it seems there is a bug at work. Unfortunately I canno...

Re: Newbie question: Style changes not reflected in the document

Thank you very much for taking the time to help. I'm getting desperate here as it still doesn't seem to work! What's particularly annoying and intriguing is that changes to the Default style set are instantly reflected; changes to a custom-made style set, however, which I constructed based on a dupl...

Newbie question: Style changes not reflected in the document

Today I downloaded a trial of Mellel and I am investigating whether I could switch away from Word, which has been a bag of hurt, as I begin to write my dissertation. I have a fundamental problem: Any changes I make to a paragraph style (or a paragraph style within a style set) are not reflected in i...
