There are a number of fairly reasonable free backup programs for Mac out there. One of them (rsync) Yes, RSYNC is sweet. I use it daily to backup my notebook to 2 external HDD's. It's fast and flexible. I usually call it from a bash script or Quicksilver, but, now that I'm learning Automator, I'll ...

That's right. I don not have Backup for Apple installed. I thought your new application was standalone just as the old MellelBackup was. I do not have any access to .Mac since I think it's a to pricy. I do not think it's worth the money (not the last time I tested it anyway). Neither do I, as it ha...

After I downloaded and the application unzipped itself, the only thing I found, was a folder namned "com.redlex.mellel.quickpick". Shouldn't it be somekind of application somewhere or what happened? It's a Mac OS bundle (i.e. a special kind of folder which usually looks like single file —...

I made it.

It should be very easy to fix, it's just I haven't turned my mind to it since I decided that I really really hated .Mac and got myself some real online backup at strongspace (with which I use rsync).

Re: Mellel to LaTeX XSLT

One final word: It would be great, if someone with a background in XSL programming could help me to improve the code. For example, I can't figure out how Stephen Still solved the list problem. This is totally beyond me. Badly. If you play around with the lists generated in HTML by that converter, y...

XML is a way of making formats - it isn't a format in and of itself. The advantage of an XML-based document format is that because it is a plain text format, and because it has very strict rules about the structure of the markup, it is vastly easier to programmatically manipulate - i.e. to convert t...

I think fears about this proposal turning Mellel into the Myspace of word processors are overblown - the kind of people who would produce a document with a garish background image as the final output are not exactly the kinds of users you're likely to be proud of anyway. They probably set their docu...

Re: Feature request: Export system

First version of the export system could simply read all XSL styles from ~/Library/Application Support/Mellel/Export, create menu items in the File/Export menu, ask the user where to put the exported file and then run the XSLT processor. On another note, it really would need _at least_ post-process...

*bump*, because a new version of Mellel has been released, and the Redlers are making the right noises about documenting the file format properly, which should encourage people to write importers and exporters.

Come on everyone - you know you want this!

There's a bunch of free tools out there. I'm current using jing, a free java command-line utility which supports relax ng.

As for tools, I was hoping there were some tools that you could feed a document with and produce an approximation of the spec - at least to get you started. There are. I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that oXygen can, for example. Edit: I think I'm wrong about oXygen. That doesn't mean it isn't ...

It's probably worth noting that there are automated tools out there (including XMLSpy, I believe) to convert from RELAX NG to DTD and Schema. This looks to be a free schema converter, although I've never used it. So we could have our cake and eat it too! As for why it's a good idea to have a formal ...

Hi Eyal, Good to see that you're contemplating this. Regardless of what format you choose to publish the format in, what would be good would be: - a list of all elements in the document format, with a brief description of what they do if it isn't completely obvious - a list of all allowable attribut...

So, for the moment, as versioning is not supported by Mellel files internally, line feeds between tags could in principle be added to Mellel files, prior to commiting changes. Would this foul them up? If not, then this shouldn't be too much of a complication to add to a versioning script. I use W3C...
