Hi Jörn, Yes, this is as styles usually work. I think what I discovered was a bug, but before submitting it I would like tounderstand if I'm doing something wrong. Try this: Access the Paragraph Style Edit dialog. Choose a different character style to be associated to the paragraph style in edit. Th...

Applying changes to all modified styles

Hi all, I have the following problem. I edited a paragraph style, by linking a new character style and changing various other parameters. When I confirm the edit, no paragraph changes. I must apply the style again to each single paragraph. How can I apply all the changes to all paragraphs with the s...

The first screenshot in the link cited at the beginning of this thread shows an outline pane on the left. Clearly "inspired" to Mellel's one...

Magnus, Well, many of us CANNOT wait. Of course there is no use in releasing a half-finished product, but why isn't it whole-finished now? They promised us cross-referencing before the end of 2006, and it is still not here. I don't see where you found a promise for something. I saw an informal commi...

To be true, according to the Jewish calendar, we are in year 5767. So, we must wait up to the next cycle :-)

(Better slow, but a work well done. I can wait.)

Nicka, I think that those who don't care about layout or complexity and just want a good environment for writing a single, perhaps long stream of styled text needn't worry because for the technical market it is imperative that the application can handle elegantly even a complicated text with its str...

Re: Some comments regarding feature requests

TLS, Mellel comes closest but is too limited and I really don't see it going in that direction much further. I still keep Mellel 1.9.1 in my hard disk, and sometimes open it to see how much Mellel has grown in about one year. It is for sure growing. Not at a fast, nor a slow pace. Just at the right ...

Re: Mellel as a technical document editor

Patrick, … InDesign, XPress, Scribus and other layout based applications totally miss the scope of writing long, structured documents. Ordinary word processor like Word or OpenOffice do not offer robust enough functions to be considered for really long and articulated documents. … I feel there needs...

Mellel as a technical document editor

Hi All, After the demise of FrameMaker for Mac, a serious tool for technical writing is missing. LaTeX is a rough alternative, with some limitations, and a user interface that makes revisions and content's control very difficult. InDesign, XPress, Scribus and other layout based applications totally ...

As a software developer myself, I couldn't imagine not looking at how others do the same thing I'm working on. If not for anything else, just to learn from other's mistakes. I don't see anybody in this forum asking for Mellel to copy functions from other programs. Several people do ask for new funct...

Inserting Cross References should be possible via a keyboard shortcut This is done with Cmd-K in FramemMaker, and this combination is free in Mellel. maybe it is the right one to choose... (At the same time, index markers are added via the nearby Cmd-J). Jumping between the reference and the refere...

Ori,

Don't forget range of pages, like in:

Word, 12-14

Also, it would be nice to have something like:

Word, 12 and following

with the "and following" part freely customizable (for example, in Italian it would be "segg.").

Best regards,

I'm very interested in DT, too, but still can't understand if the same things it does cannot be done with Smart Folders in the Finder. Isn't it using about the same concept?

Having to deal with translated texts, documents from collaborators, text from different applications, I heavily need this function in most of my job as a technical writer. This is also the reason why I don't use Mellel for screenwriting. I would consider it mandatory if Mellel is really going to sat...

This is fundamental for technical documents. Frames allow for flexible placement of tables, illustrations, secundary flows of text (like hints) not available in other ways. Since FrameMaker does not have a sticky note system, frames can also be used for that. I hope Melle will include sticky notes i...
