OK, I got it! Regarding the missing parent-element:
The Figure Caption (which is a Caption Stream) needs to be INSIDE the Structure Stream.

Re: Caption formatting issues
Wrt the missing parent-element, yes, that is indeed odd. One more interesting piece of information: Of all the Mellel templates only "Book–Technical" has the parent-element we are looking for. This means, if we want a parent-element to show up in the "Figure Caption" we are rest...

Re: Caption formatting issues
Making further tests, I notice something strange. 1. I opened the Template browser and created a new empty document based on Default > Blank > Blank A4 (Modern) 2. Then I entered the following:
https://i.postimg.cc/8zFCbsTP/1.png 3. When I tried to change the Figure Caption (in the palette) in orde...

Re: Caption formatting issues
Thank you for the upload, Thomas. I can now see the problem. It is like you said, it happens the second or the third time changes are made. After several changes, the character Caption style even changes to the character Title style, then to the Section style, then back to the original style again, ...

Re: Caption formatting issues
the character settings of the Caption style change unexpectedly after I have edited the caption style to include its parent element. Shouldn't it be: "after I have edited the "Figure Caption"? I don't see how a caption style can have a parent element. The template has two Caption sty...

Dear Munfarid,
Could you please be so kind and give us some feedback regarding the cocoAspel dictionary? Does it work for you? Are there any problems you have encountered?

Re: Word Count excluding Bibliography
Does the word count statistic include footnote citations? Yes. is it possible to show the word count excluding any bibliography but including footnotes? Yes. Cut the bibliography out. Then, when you're done, paste it in again. Or Unscan the document to make the bibliography disappear. Re-scan the d...

Re: Question regarding page numbering...
If I want to force Mellel to set the 2nd physical page as page 1 what is the best way to do that? […] I'm a bit stumped by the page numbering stuff in Mellel with respect to Auto-Titles. You are barking up the wrong tree. Auto-titles have nothing to do with page numbering. Instead, do this: 1. Plac...

Re: Footnotes restart every section: what is a section?
Considering the fact that you posted a feature request more than one year ago and then just disappeared, never bothering to answer DavidH's question about your post, I'll be brief:
Read page 207 in the Mellel Guide (What are Sections? And Section Styling Tasks.)

Re: Old German spelling (before 2006)
To begin with, allow me two questions: 1) Why do you need German old spelling? 2) And why "before 2006"? The new orthography has been in effect since 1996, with updates from 2004, 2006, 2011 and 2017. So I guess, what you actually need is the orthography from the time before 1996. You can ...

Re: Adjust Margins in PhD Dissertation
I'd like to see any tips you have time to post. Good catch on the auto-titles. My reflections on how not to write a dissertation in Mellel were originally meant for the OP only, but he is not showing any signs of interest in the matter. And since you asked, then here we go … The first part (1-8) is...

Re: Adjust Margins in PhD Dissertation
Hello Nathan, Since Amontillado has already answered your question regarding margins, I would like to draw your attention to some other oddities I noticed in your dissertation. Your document has no Auto-titles , and that makes it very difficult for the reader (including yourself!) to navigate the do...

Re: Change citations to before or after punctuation
Thank you for chiming in again, Johseb, your contribution is much appreciated. The test doc with citations objects already has the punctuation marks duplicated after the citation objects (the orange ones) while the original post required the F&R procedure to duplicate the punctuation mark (i.e. ...
