Re: Setting the language for the spell-check
I quite agree that, for the languages setting to be truly useful in multilingual documents, hyphenation dictionaries must be tied to language selection.

Re: Orphans/widows in footnotes Revisited
Eyal, I think the idea is that some would like more advanced controls for preventing orphans and widows in footnotes. This would be great even on a case-by-case basis; right now the only way to prevent orphans/widows is to prevent footnotes from splitting entirely, or to split at the paragraph level...

Re: Orphans/widows in footnotes
I would like to avoid orphans and widows in footnotes by checking the "Keep lines together" option and choosing "At start/end of paragraph" and the value "2" for "Lines at start/lines at end". I was just about to come and post about this myself when I saw you...

Re: Superscript cut off at top of page
Also, can you specify the font, size and line/paragraph spacing you're using? Sure thing. This is with Adobe Garamond Pro, 12pt, 0 in. above paragraph, .083 in. below, double-spaced. I created a new character style to deal with this temporarily. Shifting the baseline down -1 pt. is all that's neede...

Re: Superscript cut off at top of page
Could this be font related? Indeed, that seems to be the issue. I may go ahead and make that character style anyway — I am awfully fond of Adobe Garamond Pro. While this problem can be solved with a workaround, shouldn't Mellel be able to properly (and completely) render any font, making whatever a...

http://kylejamesmatthews.com/images/examples/footnote.jpg http://kylejamesmatthews.com/images/examples/footnote2.png As you can hopefully see in the relatively poor photo and screenshot I've copied above, the tips of my superscripted footnote reference symbols are cut off when they occur at the top...

I wonder what, exactly, a "better" default style set would look like.rpcameron wrote:While Mellel is definitely a powerful word processor, it has horrible defaults.

Re: Save Version/Discard changes
Also, Mountain Lion adds the option "Save All" which I don't find documented anywhere. I assume this is an option to save without versions. and That means that Apple has back-tracked and removed the demand that all applications only save as versions . . . interesting. Janet I'm not sure i...

Re: Repeated Citation Lacks Page Number
It's a Bookends thing (and is actually my fault).
The short version of the story is that you don't need to cite the same page twice in a row in MLA, unless the consecutive citations span different paragraphs. You only need to cite the page at the end of all the material you've cited from that page.

Hyphenation by language
Now that we can set the language of individual words/phrases, has anyone brought up the idea of tying hyphenation to the specified language? Would that be as useful for the rest of you as it would be for me?

Re: and on to 3.1
The 3.0 update was a major improvement for the way I use Mellel/Bookends, not just thanks to the major features (language switching and live bibliography) but to smaller improvements as well (especially the enhanced granularity of page and section settings). Since the Redlers began a discussion on i...
