Re: Background color

I need to apply a color background to a whole section. When the text is in more than one column, the paragraph background color option leaves an uncolored area where the gutter goes. This is not what I want; I need the whole section colored, with no gaps. Is this possible within Mellel? First, I kn...

No, I actually like the new look, but I'm sorry to say I find the new forum not nearly as easy to use or as intuitive as the old one.

Maybe it just takes some getting used to.

At an other posting someone suggested using a two column table and adding the line numbers by hand but that sounds incredibly time consuming (also, Mellel won't allow cells to break across pages) and will not allow easy editing of the text without having to reformat the line numbers every time (I d...

Looks like that with this problem and not being able to easily add line numbers to a documents I'll have to go back to the 'other' wordprocessor :( I'd be willing to hand correct the bibliography rather than use that "other" app . . . but, then, I never work with long bibliographies. What...

Re: Underlining

Is it possible to prevent Mellel from underlining the spaces between words at the end of a line of text? I agree that this should be fixed, but in the meantime I can offer a limited workaround: if you use center alignment for the text or justify (align both left and right), the underlined trailing ...

Which of the packages ... should I download? Go to http://www.sbl-site.org/educational/BiblicalFonts_SBLHebrew.aspx and click on the first link, "font download." This will give you the file SBL_Hbrw.ttf Double click on that file to launch Font Book and install the font. [At least that's t...

The problem is probably associated with the font you are using.

Have you tried one of the free OpenType fonts:

As I'm sure you already know, there is an annoying, but do-able workaround using tables.

Just out of curiosity, Simon, have you tried NeoOffice?

Sometimes I open an rtf file in NeoOffice, then copy/paste it into Mellel.

i don't think this is an important feature, and has nothing to do with my 'real' writing. But there are plenty of "real" occasions when vertical writing would be helpful . . . I'm thinking of tables. I often wished I could create a vertical header to the left of the table the same way I c...

Re: Can I tell a table not to break at the end of a page?

it would be great if for longer tables you could decide to split them, but for very short ones to keep the rows together on one page... but I guess that feature is still to come... Frankly that's not a feature i would like to have. I don't like having a Word Processor make those kinds of decisions ...

Re: Can I tell a table not to break at the end of a page?

But to rather jump on the next page as a whole? Bensch, I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking how to force an entire table to appear on one one rather than split some rows on one page and some on the next? If that's the question, the only answer I know is a manual Insert/Page Break...

This is a limitation of Mellel's tables. Each table can only occupy one page. Make that "Each row of cells can only only occupy one page." Tables in Mellel can run over any number of pages. I frequently use tables that are ten pages long and more. Some users have reported problems with ex...

Re: Mellel vs. Pages

The lack of support for citations in Pages is the deal breaker for me What turned me off Pages was the total lack of support for Right-to-Left languages. Has the new version corrected this? Wrapping text around figures has never been a requirement for ANY of the academic writing I do. Wrapping text...
