Mellel follows the standard convention of placing Left-toRight text inside Right-to-Left streams. You'll run into a lot of instances where the standard doesn't do what you want. One solution is the direction-breaking space already recommended. I prefer another solution, using the Character Appearanc...

Re: Mellel vs. MS Word--major advantages of Mellel

My situation is very similar to yours. I, too, often mix Chinese and Western language in my academic writing. Thus far, I have not exchanged a large number of files with colleagues. When I need to, however, I export to .rtf, then open the file in Word and save it as a .doc file. Excuse me, but why ...

You're right: Keyboard Viewer for Hebrew-QWERTY is incorrect with SBL Hebrew. How strange. Hebrew-QWERTY is correct with Ezra SIL SR. I wonder if the error isn't also reflected in the keyboard combinations. With Ezra SIL SR, "sin" is alt-w and "shin" is shift-w. I suspect this is the standard. I use...

Ken, You can always use the Keyboard Viewer to find the right key combinations. [You have to select the Keyboard Viewer "on" in System Preferences/International/Input Menu. Then, you can access it from the "flag" on the menu bar.] You can even "type" in characters using the Viewer. When I was first ...

Re: Fonts

I checked the main font palette and it shows Times New Roman 12 for the reduced paragraphs and the OK paragarphs. Jim, Check all the palettes that may effect character appearance: -- Character Style (including variation) -- Paragraph Style -- Main Font (including size) -- Secondary Font (including ...

Could this be a fonts issue?

What language(s) is the report in?

Have you tried importing the file into another app? NeoOffice? Pages? TextEdit?

Zdula, Sounds like a specific system problem on your computer. Just for starters, -- I would run regular system maintenance, -- then I would backup Mellel (including the plist files) and delete everything having to do with the application, -- I'd run maintenance again, and -- finally I'd install a f...

Neither.

You can make an initial with Mellel, it's just a little messy: you have to play with indents and baseline shift.

Zdula, please be more specific.

What do you mean you can't connect?
What error message do you get?
Have up tried downloading the upgrade from VersionTracker? MacUpdate?

Reiner, I think it's a mistake to assume that it has to be columns or tables. I find both useful, but there are features missing in each. For columns: 1. what you call synoptical views. (Others have referred to this option as multiple work flows.) 2. option to link/allign text between the columns/wo...

Re: MinonPro from Mellel to InDesign

I guess that the thin space is the solution for works that I need to make ready with Mellel alone. A much less learned version of this issue was raised on the Redlers email group. To repeat what I wrote there: using a thin space can create positioning problems . A better choice is the Narrow No-Bre...

Obviously true, Vincent.

But, the point I was trying to make was that
-- first, this is an option that some of us consider useless
-- second, OSX offers a (superior) alternative.

Re: feature request: open last document on start

It would be very nice if I could tick an option in the preferences to open the document or documents I have been using before I last closed it. Just for the record, this is an option I would never use. I very much dislike applications that presume to know what I want to work on. However, I do often...

Thanks, Janet. I already have tried the keyboard viewer and still cannot find the shaddah combinations. By the way, is there any way to print the keyboard viewer? That would be really helpful. I can then cut and glue on the characters onto my keyboard cover and make my own specialty keyboards for d...
