I've noticed that if I edit the citation, and then add more citations, and re-scan, it rescans this citation and deletes my manual changes. That makes editing it impractical. ;-) Any way to suppress this behavior I've been struggling with this same issue and suspect that the answer is No--but I'd l...

Bookends and citation delimiters

I am finally trying to get the hang of Bookends and stumble at what should be a simple thing. When I choose Copy Citation in Bookends with Mellel running and a document open, I do get a temporary citation in my document. But it does not appear between curly brackets, like this: {}. Rather, the citat...

I have the same experience--newly created Style Sets are automatically global. But this seems to be a minor problem, because it is so easily fixed. If you want to keep your Style Set Menu from becoming cluttered with document-specific Style Sets, simply open Style Set >Edit Style Sets, choose the no...

Re: Starting out?

Trying to put a different header on even and odd pages in a sample document was unfruitful. I never tried this before, but I was able to do it without trouble. Open the Page palette and under Header & Footer choose Page Type: Even/Odd; then tick “All/Odd header” AND “Even header” then go to you...

Re: Starting out?

And then styles I created for one document show up in others. Will I have an interminably long list of styles as I use Mellel more and more? — I'm missing something very basic here.) Among your several questions, let me try just this one. I, too, was for a while confused about this, so I sympathize...

Actually, you don’t have to hit the tab. If you go to Insert > Note > Edit note attributes, you can set Note symbol format to include a tab. Then just position your tab marker where you want it. I should say, though, that for me, anyway, the upper triangle (for notes) controls the starting position ...

Don-- Once again, Thank you. Your instructions are clear and the screenshots show what you say. I *am* able to get the lower triangle to control as you say in the Paragraph Style Edit window (Paragraph > Edit "name of style"). But I cannot do the same in the footnote itself. Even when I mo...

As far as I can see, this is precisely what my suggested procedure achieves. Despite the fact that the lower triangle normally does nothing to the first line of a text, in the case of footnote texts it really does indent the footnote text tothe right of the # to however far you wish, starting with ...

Columns/page numbers

I’d like to make a ‘brochure’ with horizontal page orientation and two columns per page. I’d also like to have a ‘page’ number (in header or footer) for each column. This requires two numbers per page. Is it possible to do this using automatic numbering function?
Thanks.

Re: import / export footnotes & endnotes

2) endnotes and footnotes are not exported to Word or RTF formats. As an academic in a field where pretty much every journal expects you to submit in Word format, & where footnotes are in pretty much everything I write, these omissions rule out Mellel for me. Am I missing something? I hope so.....

I'm surprised to hear this since with previous upgrades preferences have been preserved.

In any case,

How does one save preferences?

As a hint, I think you should read the section in the Mellel Guide's Find and Replace section closely on the definitions of 'greedy' and 'repetition'. Thanks for the suggestion. Greedy helps a lot. I'm getting closer. I'll do my homework and see if I can figure it out from here. (I think I discover...

Wouldn’t a character set from U+0370 to U+1FFE work? This set contains all your needed Greek characters (among others) but doesn’t contain the Roman characters (which are from U+0000 to U+0240 if you use a extended set) Yes this does find any character, but it doesn't find words, etc. What I'm afte...

Re: Find expression--alphabets

If you just want to find greek characters then you can use a "Character Range" element and enter the appropriate start and end character codes (for greek these are U+0370 to U+03FF. You can always refer to the character palette to see where the ranges start and end. This is very helpful. ...
