Helpful Hints for Collaboration via Word?

Post by laup »

Has anyone put together a list of helpful do's and don'ts for collaboration with Word as the mechanism? Exporting Mellel to Word via RTF works pretty well, but I am aware of at least a few apparent problems. Word's line-in-line-out doesn't import, of course, so I am assuming I will use those pretty much the same way I would use hard-copy markups. Beyond that, I haven't given much thought to the subject.

The export-to-Word problems that I seem to have encountered are:
o The fills of Mellel table cells don't export (the colors are lost)
o Page breaks get all fouled up
o Formats for footnotes and endnotes may not be as intended
Are there others to watch out for?

The context here is that I'm the primary author and will therefore be making changes as comments come in. I will finalize the draft that will go out to a number of people, including reviewers. Eventually, I will again export to Word for formal editing and publication.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Paul
