find and replace footnotes

Post by stoic »

For reasons to complicated to explain, I frequently find myself needing to delete most or all the footnotes in documents I work with. The easiest way to do this seems to be to simply find and delete all the superscripted characters in the document, which would of course delete the footnotes related to them as well. But I'm having trouble figuring out how to enter this action in Mellel's find and replace dialogue -- althought I'm sure there must be some way to do it.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks...

I'm afraid this will not work. We'll think of a way to add this to the find dialog abilities.

Presently, one wonderful way of getting rid of all your footnotes is to export the document in rtf format and then open it in Pages (iWork '08 version). I would love to know why this is so. If you open and save your Mellel export in Word or NeoOffice, and *then* open it in Pages, all footnotes are still there.

It is mysterious to me why Pages strips Mellel rtf exports of their notes—but this does work, as long as it is what you want ;-) .

Pages' rtf support is very limited. With Pages, the situation is that for import/export one should use .doc not rtf -- the exact opposite of the situation with Mellel. Hence Pages and Mellel talk to each other best through applications which provide good support for both doc and rtf, such as Word and NeoOffice.

Ah, that does clear up the mystery. Thanks, nicka.
