graphics being resized when file opened

Post by TLS »

I have been having problems with vector graphics being resized when I reopen a document. When I paste them in initially, there is no problem, but once I close and reopen the document, the vertical scale has often been change (not the horizontal scale).

Is there some way of preventing this behavior?

Thanks!

Just to add some further information, this is only happening with 2.7.1. The same file opened in 2.7.0 is not having the problem. I have tried different files as well, with the same sorts of results.

Sounds strange. Would you be able to send our support the said file?

I have a similar problem (using 2.7.1); I never noticed this with 2.7 (but didn't use it for long). In a large document with several copies of a single graphic (an equation) interspersed throughout the document, every instance of the graphic is made larger (in x and y) by the same amount. Other graphics in the file were not affected.

I've sent a sample file to Support as requested.

Basically it seems that 2.7.1 resizes the images on reopen but this is not permanent unless you save. For example, I can open the file in 2.7.0 with no problem, the open it in 2.7.1 and the resizing occurs. If I save and then reopen in 2.7.0 the resizing is now permanent but if I don't save and reopen in 2.7.0 all is normal. (As expected of course!) So clearly the issue is only occurring in 2.7.1.

Very odd!

I've also sent a sample. This is quite a nasty bug, especially when one is editing a 300-page document with numerous small images of mathematical symbols inserted...

Crap, I realised that this is a new "feature" in 2.7.1. Images smaller than 12x12 pt are resized to be minimum 12x12 pt. That's great, but what about single special characters inserted from MathType? If my font is set to 11 pt (as it is), many small images will be less than 12x12 pt. What am I supposed to do about this?

It's not even a settable option.

I received an email back from the Redlers: my problem is indeed a new "feature"; one that they might rethink. Until then, any one having the same problem should downgrade to 2.7.0.

Here's a link to the 2.7 announcement:
http://forum.redlers.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2096
you can download 2.7 from there.

It's embarrassing to admit but this is indeed a new "feature" of Mellel 2.7.1 where images less then 12x12 points are resized to the minimum.
We are working on fixing this feature and revising the limitation to 2x2 which I hope no one will find problematic. This fix will be in Mellel 2.7.2
