Misplaced diacritics

I have a problem with combining diacritics not being placed correctly. I am using Mellel 2.7.1 and OS X 10.5.8.
With some fonts (Times Regular) the combining diacritics are so far to the right of the modified letter that they appear to be over the following letter. With others (Minion Pro) they just seem to be slightly off. In TextEdit they are perfectly placed. I am using e + combining acute accent (0301) as a test, but it seems to be a general problem.
Is this an old bug? I noticed that something like this was fixed in an earlier version.
