Does the thread subscription work for anyone here on the forum? That is, do you get e-mail notifications if anyone answers to a topic which you have subscribed to / in which you posted?

No, that seems to have disappeared some time ago.

which is a real pity because it slows down helpful discussions immensely… it would be great if this feature could somehow be re-activated!

The problem seems to have been addressed . . . I received two email notifications this morning.

Interesting – so far I haven’t received any notifications (the settings seem fine though), but I will keep an eye open and if nothing arrives, try to fiddle around with the settings a bit. (Automatic subscription is activated, this and other threads are subscribed for me, the e-mail address is correct and I checked all relevant junk/spam filters…)

Perhaps this glitch justifies the deafening silence of the developers themselves.

Maybe the e-mail notification was switched off by the Redlers some months ago when this forum was a target of massive spammings.
