QuickLook plug in for Mellel 3

Post by Stefan Green »

QuickLook/Finder preview is not working with Mellel 3. Anybody heard about or know where to get hold of a plugin that supports Mellel 3?

Mellel 3.0.1 is now waiting for review in the Mac App Store.
We will post a notification here when it is released.

And Mellel 3.0.1 outside the App Store?

This was a good question. If the update is ready, why wait for the App Store approval. Can it not be distributed to non-App Store people separately?

Our problem is that if we release outside of the store now, our store customers will feel neglected.
At the moment, it seems to take awfully long for Apple to review applications so we are considering releasing the non-store version earlier.

Fair enough. But don't forget the poor delicate feelings of your non-appstore clients. It seems to me that one of the benefits of being such a client should be that one doesn't have to wait on such things.
Anyway, not the biggest deal. It'd be nice to see this functionality return sooner rather than later.
Thanks,

Waiting on Apple's approval before releasing a bug fix in the MAS is normal, and I expect that most MAS customers understand how that works by now. Making the rest of us wait before releasing a bug fix just because it is not yet available in the MAS just seems... well, unnecessary.

Agree.

As a non MAS customer I feel neglected regarding the iCloud feature included in the Mellel 3.x inclusively for the MAS customers.

You can blame Apple for that. iCloud is only available to apps that are sold through the MAS. If your application is not sold through MAS, then you cannot use iCloud.

There is no reason for this other than Apple trying to sell apps through the MAS, exert their control over what you can purchase and run on your computer and so they can take 30% of all apps sold through the MAS.

There are some clever workarounds for iCloud and the MAS. Smile developed a $.99 app for the MAS that lets non-MAS versions of PDFpen and PDFpen Pro work with PDFs via iCloud, same as the MAS versions of PDFpen and PDFpen Pro. Works very slick-I hope the RedleX folks have taken a look at it to perhaps do something similar for Mellel.

Coming back to the title subject in this thread, and now with 3.0.1 installed: here the plug in is working with new docs (or newly re-opened and re-saved docs) but not with old docs stored in the mac. Is that the foreseen behavior?

It very unfortunate but we are still having some issues with the plug-ins. If you can, please write to us directly so we can gather more information. Please write to me directly at support at redlers dot com.

Thanks!
