Auto-Titles like 'First Chapter', 'Second Chapter', …?

Post by chmars »

Is there any way to use words in auto-titles, for example 'first chapter', 'second chapter', etc.?

Yes and no. If you only need the chapter to be indicated by its ordinal, then yes, this is possible. However, if you also need to have a title for your chapter (or whichever level of auto-title), then the answer is not really.

To do this where there isn't really a title to the chapter, only its number/ordinal, create an auto-title such that it looks like: [Title] Chapter. Then, when you insert the auto-title, set the title to its ordinal value (i.e. "First", "Second", "Twenty–Seventh", &c.). However, the problem with such a set-up is that you have to maintain the title of your chapters manually. So, if you have written your first and second chapters, but decide that you need to insert a chapter between them, you need to manually change the title of the second chapter (which is now becoming the third), manually from "Second" to "Third", and create your new auto-title with the Title of "Second".

However, if you were asking if there is a numbering scheme in the auto-title set-up that uses ordinal words instead of numerals, then the answer is no.

Hopefully this answers your question.
